Brendan's Convocation!

Brendan’s Convocation at Universiti Malaya: A Proud Moment for Our Family

Today marked a significant milestone for Brendan as he officially fulfilled the requirements prescribed by Universiti Malaya (UM) for the Master of Media Studies program. With the assent of the Senate, he was awarded the Master of Media Studies (With Distinction) by the Vice Chancellor, Professor Dato' Seri Ir. Dr Noor Azuan Abu Osman, and the Registrar, Professor Ir. Dr. Abdul Aziz Abdul Rahman.

The Journey to Dewan Tunku Canselor

Our day began bright and early at 7:00am. We hopped into Puteh, and Brendan drove us to Universiti Malaya. He parked near Dewan Tunku Canselor, the venue for the ceremony. We strolled toward the hall, pausing at several campus landmarks for photo opportunities—a perfect way to capture the moment.

By 7:45am, guests were allowed into the hall. Cat and I entered through the main entrance, while Brendan and his coursemates proceeded via a separate corridor.

The Ceremony

Unlike Brendan’s previous convocation at Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS), which was completed in a single day, UM’s convocation spans an entire week. Today was dedicated to Brendan’s faculty.

At 8:15am, the graduates filed in, followed by the Academic Procession at 8:45am—a formal parade of faculty members and dignitaries in full academic regalia. After an inspiring speech by the Vice Chancellor, the ceremony commenced, and Brendan proudly received his scroll. By 10:00am, the event concluded, and we exited the hall with hearts full of pride.

Celebrations and Reflections

Outside, Brendan and his coursemates posed for countless photos, and I joined in with my camera. About forty minutes later, Cat and I headed to Andalus Café for a celebratory brunch, where Brendan joined us soon after. We left around 11:50am as Brendan continued his festivities with friends.

On our way home, we made a quick stop at an RHB bank for an urgent matter, then picked up three packets of rice from the Marvelous Ayam Goreng Kunyit stall. Unfortunately, the experience was far from marvelous—the seller ignored us and served someone behind us despite our clear position in the queue. Needless to say, we won’t be returning.

Finally, we walked home, filled with pride over Brendan’s academic achievements. May he continue to fulfill his potential and enjoy a rewarding, contented career.

Next up: our Christmas adventure in Bangkok—stay tuned!
