To PUTRAJAYA and Beyond │ Nasi Beriani Anwar Ibrahim!

The Wait Is Over!

Picking up from where we left off last week, we were glued to the television the moment all polling stations closed. We stayed up until the wee hours of the morning, only to find Malaysia facing a hung parliament.

For the next five days, we watched and waited with bated breath, hoping common sense would prevail. In the end — with some royal guidance — a unity government was formed, and Anwar Ibrahim took his oath of office before the Yang di Pertuan Agong at Istana Negara on 24 November 2022.

(As always, it’s good to confirm political developments with trusted news sources.)
Once the dust settled, we took stock of the country’s mood. The ringgit strengthened, the stock market perked up, and with Anwar Ibrahim at the helm, many Malaysians felt reassured by an experienced hand returning to leadership.

Errands After the Election

Enough politics — we rose early this morning and headed to IKEA Cheras to run an errand. As always, we ended up with a few items we didn’t plan on buying… the IKEA effect strikes again.

We then drove to Putrajaya, and speaking of Anwar Ibrahim, we went to the same food court in Presint 8 where the Prime Minister had lunch the day before. I had the Mutton Briyani, while Cat tried the Beef Briyani.

With drinks, our “prime ministerial lunch” came to RM34.50 (≈ USD8/EUR7) — quite reasonable.

After lunch, we drove to Dataran Putra in Presint 1 to take in the sights of Putrajaya in all its glory, casting a glance at the Prime Minister’s Office. We sincerely wished him well.

A Quick Tech Stop

We then drove to Cheras, where I had an appointment to pick up a pre loved CPU for our CCTV system. Shawn ran into some issues with the original unit, but he eventually sorted everything out and even replaced it with a superior one.

With that done, we headed home.

One Week After GE15

A week after GE15, we found ourselves wondering: have our prayers for a better tomorrow been answered?

We sincerely hope so — and we remain cautiously optimistic.

More adventures soon!

To The POLLING STATION │ GE15: Today Malaysia Decides!

Today Malaysia Decides!

As promised, we were up bright and early this morning to head to the ballot boxes. We left home at 8:00am, determined to be among the earliest voters.

We hailed a Grab to the polling station at St John’s Primary School, arriving just a few minutes later. The polling station was professionally managed, calm, and free of large crowds. Cat and I were assigned to Channel 4, while Brendan was assigned to Channel 5.

Within minutes, it was all over — quick, smooth, and efficient. We were glad we came early; Brendan’s friends were already reporting long queues forming at polling stations across the country.

We were grateful to all the volunteers manning the station and to the law enforcement officers keeping the peace.

Breakfast & Errands

We then walked down St John’s Hill and headed to our favourite breakfast spot, Mansion Tea Stall, for Roti Canai.

After breakfast, we walked to the nearby Maybank to replenish our Federal Reserves before heading home.

We had done all we could — exercised our constitutional rights — and would now wait for the results. We knew we’d be glued to the television later in the evening once all polling stations closed.

Hoping for the Best

With ballots cast and the nation waiting, we prayed for a better tomorrow!

To KLIA and Back │ GE15: Tomorrow Malaysia Decides!

Tomorrow Malaysia Decides

Tomorrow would be an important day for Malaysia. GE15 (the 15th General Election) was set to take place, with 221 parliamentary seats being contested. After years of political uncertainty, shifting alliances, and leadership changes since 2018, this felt like a moment many Malaysians had been waiting for.

We quietly hoped for something simple—that good judgment would prevail, and that the next government would truly serve the people.

A Public Holiday with Purpose

The government declared today a public holiday to allow everyone time to travel home and vote. For us, it meant a slower, more reflective day before an important morning ahead.

Brendan had been given an extra week off and was flying back from Kuching to vote as well. It felt good knowing we would all be doing our part.

Lunch Trip to Tanjung Sepat

We decided to take a leisurely drive to Tanjung Sepat for lunch—something we had done a few times before, but always enjoyed.

This time, we wanted to try something new, so we headed to Restoran Ban Joo Hing. It did not have the sea views of some other nearby restaurants, but that didn’t matter much to us.

After looking through the simple menu, we ordered:

  • Spicy Fried Stingray – RM38.00
  • Sambal Fried Prawns – RM48.00
  • Chinese Herbal Paper Wrapped Chicken – RM48.00
  • Sweet Potato Leaves – RM12.00
  • 2 servings of white rice @ RM1.50 each
  • 1 pot of Chinese tea – RM6.00

Our seafood lunch came to RM155.00 (≈ USD34 / EUR33). It felt a little expensive, but the meal was satisfying, and we took our time enjoying it.

A Stop for Dragon Fruits

After lunch, we made a short drive to Mimi Dragonfruits. Just as we arrived, it began to rain heavily. Mimi kindly came out with an umbrella to guide us in, which we really appreciated.

We ended up buying RM60.00 (≈ USD13 / EUR13) worth of dragon fruits. Her smile said it all—it felt good to support a familiar face.

Waiting at KLIA

From there, we drove to KLIA to pick up Brendan. His flight (MH2513) had departed from Kuching at 1:51pm and landed at 3:20pm.

Within half an hour, he walked out into the Arrival Hall, and it was a simple but happy reunion.

Heading Home

We got back into Puteh and made the drive home, taking around an hour and a half. It had been a calm day—nothing dramatic, just small moments, quiet thoughts, and a sense of anticipation.

Looking Ahead

Tomorrow would be a big day.

We planned to wake up early and head to the polling stations. Whatever the outcome, it felt important to show up and be counted.

Stay tuned!

KSL in 24 Hours │ Hotel Le-Shore • Restoran Jeti • River View Seafood • Roti Canai Pelangi

Kuala Selangor Getaway

We took a day off work for something important—a routine medical check up at KPJ Tawakkal Specialist Hospital. Since being diagnosed with hypothyroidism years ago, we had been keeping a close eye on things. Thankfully, apart from needing to manage our weight better, everything checked out fine.

Relieved, we decided to take the day further and head out of the city.

A Drive to the Coast

We set off for Kuala Selangor, about 70 kilometres northwest of Kuala Lumpur. After a little over an hour, we arrived at Pasir Penambang, a quiet riverside area known for its seafood and local charm.

Kuala Selangor itself felt relaxed and coastal, where the river met the sea. It was known for fresh seafood, history, and nature, and we were ready to enjoy it.

Seafood and a Slow Walk

We walked into Restoran Makanan Laut Jeti for lunch. An hour later, we came out with full stomachs and happy hearts. (Be sure to check out our video on that seafood feast!)

After lunch, we took a gentle stroll along the area, letting the pace of the town slow us down.

Simple Stay by the River

We then walked to our hotel for the night—Hotel Le Shore. Our original room cost RM93 per night (≈ USD20/EUR20), but we quickly realised it had no window.

Being a little claustrophobic, we chose to upgrade to a room with a window for an additional RM89 (≈ USD19/EUR19).

It was a simple space, but comfortable enough for a short stay.

Evening Wind Down

The afternoon passed quietly. We organised photos and videos, then took a short nap. Later in the evening, we headed out again for dinner at River View Seafood Restaurant. (You can catch that meal in our previous video too.)

It was a calm and easy way to end the day.

Morning in Kuala Selangor

The next morning, we woke up and walked to Warung Dimyati for breakfast. The stall was famous for its colourful Roti Canai Pelangi.

  • We tried the blue roti and pink roti
  • Both of us had the unique “telur goyang” (half boiled eggs served on top)
  • We added milk tea, local cakes, and takeaway Nasi Ambeng

Breakfast came to RM45.50 (≈ USD10/EUR10).

For those curious, Nasi Ambeng was a comforting dish of rice served with chicken, vegetables, noodles, and other rich, savoury sides.

Heading Home

After breakfast, we returned to the hotel, checked out, and enjoyed a leisurely drive back to Kuala Lumpur.

Looking Ahead

Kuala Selangor had more to offer than we had time for. Next time, we hoped to return with Brendan and explore places like:

  • Bukit Melawati
  • Kuala Selangor Nature Park
  • Firefly Park
  • Sky Mirror and Blue Tears

For now, we left with full hearts, simple memories, and plans to return again someday.

Stay tuned!

KSL in 24 Hours │ RIVER VIEW Seafood Restaurant

Seafood Again in Kuala Selangor

Since we were already spending a night in Kuala Selangor, one seafood meal was simply not enough. After lunch earlier at Restoran Makanan Laut Jeti, we decided to go for another round in the evening.

After all, when in Pasir Penambang, we thought it was only right to enjoy the fresh seafood available.

Choosing a Dinner Spot

We first looked at the restaurant next to our hotel, but we were not sure if it was open. So we walked back to the same riverside area where we had lunch. Right beside it, we spotted River View Seafood Restaurant.

We had read good things about it, and since it also sat along the banks of the Selangor River, we decided to give it a try.

Dinner by the River

The setting was lovely, especially with the river view and the evening light. After going through the menu, we ordered:

  • Butter Prawns – RM27.00
  • 3 in 1 Steamed Red Snapper – RM33.60
  • Fuyong Egg (omelette) – RM12.00
  • 1 jar of Apple Juice – RM17.00
  • 2 servings of white rice @ RM1.30 each

Our dinner came to RM92.20 (approximately USD19/EUR19).

Better Taste, Better Experience

This meal turned out to be slightly cheaper than lunch, but for us, the flavours felt more balanced and suited our taste better. Everything was fresh, simple, and comforting.

The highlight, however, was the sunset. Watching the sky change colours over the river while enjoying a quiet meal made the experience even more special.

A New Favourite

By the end of the evening, River View Seafood Restaurant had become our new favourite spot in Kuala Selangor.

It was not just about the food—it was the calm setting, the view, and the overall atmosphere that made it memorable.

Wrapping Up

And just like that, our seafood extravaganza in Kuala Selangor came to a close.

Stay tuned for more food adventures ahead—we always seemed to find our next meal before we even finished the last!

KSL in 24 Hours │ Restoran Makanan Laut JETI

Seafood by the River

We came to Kuala Selangor with one simple goal—to enjoy fresh seafood. So the moment we arrived at Pasir Penambang, we made our way to the first seafood restaurant we could find.

Choosing Our Spot

It did not take long for us to decide. Restoran Makanan Laut Jeti sat right on the banks of the Selangor River, and that alone made it feel like the right place. The calm waters and open view added something special even before we had our first bite.

We took our time looking through the menu, wanting to get it just right.

Our Seafood Spread

In the end, we settled on:

  • Assam Steamed Jenahak (Snapper) – RM56.00
  • Nyonya style Squid – RM22.00
  • Oyster Pancake – RM18.00
  • 3 servings of plain rice @ RM1.50 each
  • 1 pot of Chinese tea – RM4.50

Our lunch came to RM110.80 (≈ USD23/EUR23).

Worth the Splurge?

At first glance, it felt a little expensive by our usual standards. But looking closer, we realised that the snapper alone made up about half the bill. With that in mind, the total started to make more sense.

The food was fresh, flavourful, and simply done—the kind of meal that reminded us why we made the trip in the first place.

Not Done Yet

Of course, one seafood meal was never going to be enough for this trip.

We already had plans for another round later in the evening.

Stay tuned—we were far from done with seafood just yet!
