KCH Day 7 │ Remin Asuh Dayak • Night Drive!

Dayak Cuisine on Our Last Night

We picked you up again after returning from our final spending spree at Mita Cake House and lunch at Peach Garden. The entire afternoon was spent organising our belongings into the two yellow submarines — and we remained grateful to Marvin for rescuing one of them with his zipper repair.

I worked on our videos while Cat handled laundry, and she only emerged in the evening. Since it was our last night in Kuching, we wanted one more round of local cuisine. Our interest was piqued by a Dayak food court called Remin Asuh Dayak, so we left Adelyn’s homestay at 5:30pm and drove to Marbel Garden.

Dinner at Remin Asuh Dayak

Remin Asuh — which means “smoke house” in the Bidayuh Biatah language — opened in 2019 and caters to the local community, especially fans of country and western music. The food court offers a variety of stalls serving Dayak dishes, BBQ meats, grilled Western food, sambal ikan, and other local favourites.

We arrived at 6:00pm and, being first timers, took our time surveying the options before ordering from D’Satay & BBQ Station:

  • 200g of 3 layer Pork
  • 10 sticks of Pork Satay

We then added a plate of Midin Sambal Belacan from D&C Juicy Barbeque. With a round of drinks, our final dinner in Kuching came to RM50.40 (≈ USD12/EUR10). And as always, since I was driving, no alcohol was consumed.

One Last Drive

Since it was our final night, we decided to take a slow, leisurely drive to the Kuching Waterfront before heading back one last time to Adelyn’s homestay. The river breeze, the lights, the quiet hum of the city — a perfect way to end our stay.

What’s Next

Stay tuned — in the next video, we leave Kuching on a jet plane!
