KCH Day 2 │ Peach Garden Food Centre!

A Rainy Change of Plans

After our morning drive to UNIMAS and brunch at Premier Food Republic, we spent the rest of the day indoors. I worked on our videos while Cat kept busy with laundry. Lunchtime passed without either of us feeling hungry, so we continued relaxing at Adelyn’s homestay.

By 3:00pm, rain began to fall — steady, unrelenting rain that made us rethink our dinner plans. We had been deciding between Rock Road Seafood and Topspot Food Court, both recommended by a colleague at our Kuching office. But with Topspot being open air, the weather made the choice for us.

Rock Road… or Not

We hopped into the rental car late in the evening and made the short 10 minute drive to Rock Road Seafood. Unfortunately, the restaurant was closed for the next three days.

We made a few calls and found another seafood spot open along Jalan Song. We drove to Xin Kwong Chin Seafood, but the moment we stepped out of the car, the aroma drifting from a nearby food court completely derailed our plans.

Peach Garden Food Centre

Drawn by the smell, we walked over to Peach Garden Food Centre https://bit.ly/4kfUjLe— a sprawling food court with more stalls than we could possibly list. I took a stroll with the DJI Pocket 3 to capture the atmosphere, hoping the footage will help bring the place to life.

After surveying the options, we settled on:

  • Sausage Fried Rice
  • Sambal Sotong with Rice
  • Sayur Manis
  • Chicken Wings
  • 2 glasses of Kedondong Juice

Our second dinner in Kuching came to RM58.00 (≈ USD14 / EUR12). Mindful that I was driving, we skipped alcohol again.

Before leaving, we bought three packets of cut fruit for RM29.00 — a little pricey in our opinion, but a refreshing treat nonetheless.

Back to the Homestay

We made the short drive back to Adelyn’s homestay. I continued editing our videos while Cat started another load of laundry. A quiet, cosy end to a rainy Kuching evening.

What’s Next

Stay tuned — in the next video, we head to the vicinity of the Waterfront for breakfast and a little errand!
