Kuala Terengganu Trip Day 2!

Pantai Batu Buruk. We arrived in Kuala Terengganu yesterday, but I truly 'came home' only after the first whiff of the salt air here.

Growing up in Kuala Terengganu in the late 70s and early 80s this beach was the focal point of everything I did, be it to socially and even to go to school. Others may wax lyrical about Batu Feringghi, Tanjung Bungah, Langkawi, Mersing and the lot but in my (definitely biased) mind these beaches do not hold a candle to the breathtaking Batu Buruk beach.

We began our tour of this magnificent beach at the aptly named Pantai Batu Burok 2 nicknamed 'Matterhorn' beach where a group of misguided youths tried the most horrid packet of menthol cigarettes for the first (and last time). Here laid in ruins was once majestic complex of government quarters where a friend used to live. A shame.

We then headed to Batu Buruk proper, and had the beach almost to ourselves devoid of the customary crowds (and triple parked cars). It was a pleasant Thursday afternoon indeed. A visit here would not be complete without having keropok lekor on the beach, and spent an enjoyable half an hour spend doing just that.

We would visit this beach everyday for the entire duration of our stay in Kuala Terengganu, such is my affinity and bond with this magnificent beach.
