UAE2020 Day 00: Getting Ready

We were planning to visit my sister Ginny and her husband Vincent (my brother from another mother and affectionately known to us as 'Sern') in Abu Dhabi again, having visited them more than four years ago for Christmas. We had a quite rip-roaring time the last time, and was eager to see what UAE had in store for us this time around.

We made our plans and booked our flight with Air Arabia (Kuala Lumpur to Sharjah G9924) well over a month earlier, scheduled as follows:

  • Departure 21 Jan 2020 03:00 (MY time)
  • Arrival 21 Jan 2020 06:50 (AE time)

As we customarily do with other airlines, we waited until it was exactly 48 hours before flight departure to check-in with Air Arabia’s website but failed.

Thinking that Air Arabia only allows check-within 24 hours of flight departure we tried again early this morning. We again failed.

Promptly at 9am this morning we made a call to Air Arabia’s representative office in Kuala Lumpur and was advised to make inquiries in person with Air Arabia’s check-in counter at KLIA!

We made our way to KLIA and found Air Arabia’s check-in counter closed. We then inquired with KLIA’s general information counter and was told that Air Arabia only allows physical check-in 3 hours before flight departure time. In other words, we will have to make sure that we get to Air Arabia’s check-in counter by midnight later.

Sure enough, we were at KLIA to catch our flight to Sharjah by 11.30pm but not before ensuring that our luggage was securely wrapped.

there's a sticker which enables us to trace our baggage

supposedly protected against getting lost?

if the seal is broken we will know its been tampered with

we're supposed to leave it and report to Customs!

We were pleasantly surprised that Air Arabia’s check-in counter opened a quarter to midnight and we duly checked in.

So begins our Arabian adventure!
