We’re in Tanah Rata
To celebrate my 55th birthday, we made plans to spend the next few days in Cameron Highlands. We could scarcely believe it had been ten years since our last visit.
We awoke at 6:00am and left home forty minutes later. I hailed a six seater Grab to TBS, but for some reason the driver of the first car — registration VFL5758, driven by Mohammad Jasnie — decided not to pick us up. He remained parked near Concorde Hotel the entire time and eventually cancelled the ride.
Brendan then booked another six seater Grab for RM31.00 (≈ USD7/EUR6), which arrived promptly at 7:15am.
We reached TBS at 7:45am and were dropped at the main gate (C) on Level 3.
Breakfast at TBS
Hoping for a quick breakfast, we went up to Level 4, only to find everything closed except Dunkin Donuts, as it was the holy month of Ramadan. We settled for drinks and headed back down to Level 3 at 8:00am.
We passed the turnstile and security check, took the escalator to Level 2, and made our way to Gate 5. Five minutes later, we were allowed to board our Unititi bus, registration VED6544.
At 8:35am, the bus departed TBS.
The Journey North
Forty minutes later, we passed the Jalan Duta Toll Plaza and continued north along the North–South Expressway — well and truly on our way to Cameron Highlands.
Two hours into the journey, the bus exited at Bidor to drop off a passenger, then exited again at Tapah fifteen minutes later. We made a 15 minute pit stop at the rest area after the Tapah Toll Plaza.
The bus then resumed its drive toward Tanah Rata, about 60 kilometres away, a stretch known for its twisting, winding roads.
Welcome to Cameron Highlands
An hour of bends and curves later, we arrived in Ringlet, where the bus stopped to refuel. Shortly after, we continued uphill and finally reached the Tanah Rata Bus Station at 12:40pm.
Welcome to Cameron Highlands — cool air, rolling hills, and a birthday getaway a decade in the making.
