PEN Day 2 │ Christmas Day • CEKI Nyonya Restaurant and Beyond!

Christmas Day

We slept in and only got up at 9:30am. As is our tradition on Christmas Day in Penang, we had already made lunch reservations at a nearby Nyonya restaurant.

We got ready and left the hotel at 11:35am for the ten minute walk to Jalan Bahari.

Two years ago, we celebrated Cat’s birthday at Bibik’s Kitchen Nyonya Cuisine. Last year, we celebrated at BaBa Phang. So it felt only natural to complete the Nyonya trifecta along Jalan Bahari with a visit to CEKI Nyonya Restaurant today.

Lunch at CEKI

We were immediately impressed by the décor the moment we stepped inside. I got a little carried away taking photos of the interior.

After carefully browsing the menu, we settled on:

Assam Pedas Fish
Tau Ewe (Thick Soy Sauce) Bak
Plain Omelette
Tetae Lemak (Sweet Potato Leaves)
Rendang Beef
2 Lemongrass Juice
1 Coca Cola

Our traditional Straits Settlement Christmas lunch came to RM332.20 (≈ USD74/EUR71).

Afternoon Errands

After settling the bill, we walked a short distance to the bus stop in front of 7 Eleven along Jalan Penang. From there, we caught a free CAT bus to KOMTAR to renew our Mutiara bus pass.

I then walked into Maybank to replenish our Federal Reserves before we crossed KOMTAR to catch a Rapid Penang #101 bus back to Jalan Transfer.

We alighted at the Wisma MCA stop and walked to Mydin Emporium to pick up some provisions before returning to the hotel to escape the intense afternoon heat.
