PEN Day 3 │ Boxing Day • Ayam Garam Xiang Peng Peng!

Boxing Day

We slept in again. I got up at 9:00am to work on the footage from the last few days. Cat woke up soon after, while Brendan only emerged at 11:00am.

We all got ready and left the hotel at 11:45am, walking a short distance along Jalan Penang. We were headed in the same direction as yesterday, but this time our plans were for lunch across the road from CEKI.

Salted Chicken for Lunch

We had come across Xiang Peng Peng Salted Chicken on Instagram — touted as “a healthy, gluten free, home made salted chicken prepared from a traditional recipe more than 100 years old.” That alone was enough to pique our interest.

We walked in at 12:00pm and had the place to ourselves. The menu was small, which made choosing easy. We settled on:

  • Half a Chicken (Original Flavour)
  • Stir Fried Roasted Pork
  • Plain Omelette
  • Pork Ribs Soup
  • 1 Kumquat Sour Plum
  • 2 Coca Cola

Our unique Boxing Day lunch came to RM110.00 (≈ USD25/EUR24), a little pricey by our reckoning, but still an interesting experience.

After lunch, we made the short walk back to the hotel to rest.
