Restoran Tian Kee

No.136/2 Jalan Sultan Zainal Abidin
20000 Kuala Terengganu
Coordinates: 5.333290, 103.149096

We have a confession to make: Tian Kee was not our preferred destination for dinner tonight.

We were smacking our lips at the thought of having the excellent spare ribs at Restoran Ocean. As luck would have it, and apart from the incessant rain from this late afternoon, Restoran Ocean was booked for a wedding dinner. Bummer!

So with much hesitation and trepidation we went next door to Restoran Tian Kee. Mind you, we have nothing against Restoran Tian Kee but the very fact that it is a ‘kosher’  restaurant means spare ribs is definitely not on the menu.

Oh, well... when life gives you lemons?

The first thing (as in not human, but a cranky grumpy apparition) to come to our table and take our order made it plainly clear that he was doing us a favor, that we owed him a million ringgit and that we were sooo beneath him. Talk about life giving him lemons, he must have chewed the entire bunch!

Brendan's omelette (yeah, he was not in the mood too)

Japanese tofu swimming in starchy soy sauce, looks like

fried calamari somewhere in that pile, we guess?

a grouper gasping for help?

bon appetit, or non appetit?

The verdict? Despite the fact that Restoran Ocean was not available for walk-ins tonight Restoran Tian Kee was hardly bustling with business. A testament to its reputation, and the absolutely vile ‘waiter’ that took our order. If not for the rain, we would have had dinner some place else.

hardly busy

P/S: Try searching "Restoran Tian Kee Kuala Terengganu" on Google Maps and see what turns up... it will yield the result: Ocean Restaurant. I kid you not
