Pacific Express Hotel Central Market

Chinese New Year Eve!

In the Hokkien dialect today is known as Sa Cap Meh (which literally means "thirtieth night") and it refers to the eve of Chinese New Year.

Last year we had our Sa Cap Meh dinner at Kocik Heritage in Melaka, this year we will be having our dinner closer to home.

At three in the afternoon we hailed a grab car for a fare of RM21.00 (approximately USD/EUR4) to Pacific Express Hotel Central Market where we would be putting up the night. We suspected that due to the lack of drivers a day before Chinese New Year the fare unusually high.

The check in process was pleasant and smooth, the hotel was kind enough to arrange that our rooms be side by side as requested. We booked 2 twin rooms for a total of RM316.52 (approximately USD67/EUR62) that included both a 6% VAT and 10% Property Service Charge. We will let the footage tell the story of our hotel rooms.

We deposited our bags in the rooms and headed back down to have drinks. We walked over to Central Market to have a look at these cafes here, but nothing appealed to us.

Brendan had his heart set on Secret Recipe, so we headed next door. After scanning the QR code we proceeded to order:

  • a cup of Ipoh White Coffee
  • a glass of Iced Honey Lemonade
  • a glass of Apple Citrus Fizz
  • a serving of Shinjuku Caramel
  • a slice of Chocolate Indulgence
  • a slice of Strawberry Rose

Our drinks and cakes that included a service charge of 10% as well as a service tax of 6% came to RM65.30 (approximately USD14/EUR13).

We then walked to the 7-Eleven next doot to get bottled drinking before heading back up to our rooms to rest. Be sure to catch our upcoming video about Precious Old China!
