Kuching Day 1!
Brendan enrolled at the University of Malaysia, Sarawak (UNIMAS) in September 2019 to pursue his Bachelor of Arts in English for Global Communication (Hons.). He recently completed his seventh and second last semester.
On 19 February, he moved out of his residential college and would soon return home to Kuala Lumpur for his internship. With that in mind, we made plans to fly to Kuching.
Early Morning Journey
We woke up at 5:30am and left home at 6:15am. We hailed a 6 seater Grab to KL Sentral for RM16.00 (≈ USD4/EUR3), then rode the ERL to KLIA for RM55.00 each (≈ USD/EUR12).
We arrived at 7:30am, checked in our luggage, collected our boarding passes, and went looking for breakfast.
We first considered the “Noodles” stall, but Cat spotted Taco Bell, so we went there instead.
- Quesadilla + Fries
- Shredded Chicken Nacho Set
Total: RM46.20 (≈ USD/EUR10).
We spent the next hour people watching before entering the domestic departure gates. Our flight, MH2520, was departing from Gate B10 close to 11am.
Flying to Kuching
We boarded at 10:45am, and the plane took off at 11:20am. The flight lasted about 1.5 hours, with some turbulence over the South China Sea.
MH2520 landed at 12:45pm. After clearing Customs & Immigration, we collected our luggage from Carousel D and met our regular car rental guy, Awang Amirul, outside the airport. He handed us the keys to a blue Perodua Bezza. (He offers great rates — here's his link https://bit.ly/3IlMUIA)
We mounted the DJI Action 3 on the windscreen and drove to UNIMAS.
Picking Up Brendan
We reached Dahlia College about 30 minutes later. Brendan was waiting, and after hugs and kisses, we loaded his belongings into the car.
Next, we drove to our Airbnb in Kenyalang Park. We plan to review the home once we get the owner’s permission.
After a quick shower, we returned to Dahlia College to collect the remaining items.
Errands and Dinner
We then drove to Aiman Mall to run a few errands. Since I was a little hungry, we stopped at a café for drinks.
Later, we headed to Cempaka College before driving to Premier Food Republic in Tabuan Jaya — a large and lively food court.
Our orders:
- Bak Kut Teh — RM11.00
- Laksa Sarawak — RM8.00
- Minced Pork Noodles — RM8.00
- Beef Noodles — RM8.00
- Drinks — RM11.20
Total: RM46.20 (≈ USD/EUR10) — the same amount we spent on breakfast at Taco Bell!
After dinner, we sent Ashley back to Cempaka College and returned to our Airbnb to rest.
More Tomorrow
Apart from an office call in the morning, we had nothing planned — so please stay tuned!
