MKZ Day 1 │ Dataran Pahlawan • Imperio Residence • Seri Sahabat

Melaka Day 1!

We woke up at 5:00am and were on the road an hour later. Apart from a few side swiping morons, the drive was largely uneventful. We reached the Ayer Keroh toll gates at about 8:30am. If you haven’t already, do check out our previous blog dedicated entirely to this peaceful two hour drive.

Breakfast at Odeon Western Food

First order of business in Melaka was breakfast, so we headed straight to Odeon Western Food in Melaka Raya. We scanned the menu and quickly settled on their convenient breakfast sets — Cat ordered Set A, while I opted for Set B with an extra sausage.

With drinks, breakfast came to RM17.50 (≈ USD/EUR4).

Killing Time at Dataran Pahlawan

We then drove to Dataran Pahlawan and parked in the basement, hoping to relax at a café. Unfortunately, nothing was open at 9:00am, so we walked out and found a small stall nearby for drinks.

At 10:00am, we re entered the mall and went looking for a manicurist — again, no luck. So we treated ourselves instead to a foot & shoulder massage at Thai Wadee Reflexology for RM85.00 per person (≈ USD20/EUR18).

An hour and a half later, we felt completely rejuvenated.

Lunch at Wong Kok Char Chan Teng

We continued our walkabout before eventually settling on Wong Kok Char Chan Teng for lunch. We ordered:

  • Chinese 5 Spice Fried Rice — RM13.60
  • Honey BBQ Pork with Fried Rice — RM14.90
  • Fruit juices — RM7.50 each

Total: RM50.45 (≈ USD12/EUR11).

After lunch, we left Dataran Pahlawan in search of bottled water and eventually found a 99 Speedmart along Jalan Ong Kim Wee. With half an hour left before check in time, we made our way to Imperio Residence.

Checking In

We collected the room key and paid a RM100.00 deposit (≈ USD23/EUR22) at the host’s counter in Tower B. We then drove up to Level 7 and took the elevator to Level 26.

Our home for the next 6 days — a cosy studio with kitchenette and washer/dryer — cost us RM897.18 (≈ USD210/EUR193), or RM179.50 (≈ USD42/EUR39) per night. A great deal for Melaka.

Evening Nap & Supper

Since we had been up since 5:00am, we were fast asleep by 5:00pm. Four hours later, we woke up and drove to the Bunga Raya area. After picking up some provisions at another 99 Speedmart, we had supper at Seri Sahabat.

Our meal of Naan, Tandoori Chicken, and Fried Beehoon, with drinks, came to RM22.50 (≈ USD/EUR5).

We then headed back to Imperio Residence, hoping for an early night — eager for a proper walkabout tomorrow morning.
