Going Home — Until We Meet Again, Kuching
I woke up at 8:00am and promptly ordered breakfast from McDonald’s via Grab. Cat woke up shortly after and received the delivery, and once Brendan was up, we had our breakfast and began packing our things away.
We left Adelyn’s Airbnb at 10:30am and arrived at Kuching International Airport (KIA) about fifteen minutes later. I dropped Cat and Brendan off at the Departure Hall and waited while they unloaded our luggage.
Our good buddy Awang Amirul was again indisposed, so I drove the rental car into the airport car park, secured it, and sent him photos of its location. Then I made my way to the Departure Hall to rejoin the family.
Waiting for MH2513
We waited until 11:30am to check in. With time to burn before our flight, we headed to Starbucks for drinks. Although the outlet was fairly large, the barista was also the cashier, which meant a longer wait than usual.
Half an hour later, we made our way to the Departure Hall, cleared Immigration and security, and headed to Gate 5. Thankfully, MH2513 was still on schedule to depart at 1:30pm, so we had less than an hour to wait.
Boarding began at 1:00pm, and we reached our seats twenty minutes later. We were seated along Row 10, which unfortunately had no window — meaning no take off or landing footage this time.
In the Air
MH2513 began taxiing at 1:30pm and took off ten minutes later. Apart from a few air pockets, the flight was smooth and uneventful.
We were soon served our on board meals:
- Brendan & I — Chicken with Rice
- Cat — Seafood with Rice
Simple, warm, and comforting — the usual Malaysia Airlines fare.
We touched down at 3:10pm.
Back on the Peninsula
We collected our luggage from Carousel L, then headed to the ERL station. We caught the 4:00pm train and arrived at KL Sentral about half an hour later.
From there, we hailed a 6 seater Grab for RM25.00 (≈ USD/EUR5) and reached home just before 5:00pm.
Kuching, We Miss You Already
Another chapter closed; another set of memories tucked safely away.
Kuching, with your food, your warmth, your rain, your river, and your people — we miss you already.
