Merdeka Morning
Our third day in Kuala Terengganu happened to be Merdeka Day, Malaysia’s annual celebration of independence on 31 August. We woke up early and left the rest house at 8:30am, heading to the home so Cat could start a load of laundry before breakfast.
We planned to eat somewhere in town, but as soon as we reached Jalan Sultan Ismail, we saw that the road was closed for the celebrations. Knowing it was pointless to try, we turned back to the home and ordered breakfast through Grab.
Breakfast at Home
We chose Warung Atiq on Jalan Pasir Panjang and ordered:
- Nasi Lemak with Omelette (each)
- Iced Lemon Tea
- Iced Coffee
The total was RM25.20 (about USD6/EUR5). Due to the road closures, delivery took longer than usual, but our food arrived at 10:40am — and it was worth the wait. The Sambal gravy tasted just like my school days, and the steamed Ikan Aye (Mackerel Tuna) was perfect.
A Day of Chores
After breakfast, we got straight to work. I settled at the laptop while Cat continued cleaning with her vacuum and other tools. We skipped lunch since we were still full and made do with leftovers from Gerai Kuih Gong Kapas.
We also managed to set up a three by three meter tent at the front porch. It took effort, and we forgot to film the process, but it felt good to get it done.
In the evening, we went outside to clear the weeds that had taken over the drain — this time remembering to capture footage.
Dinner Delivered
Traffic around the home was reportedly terrible because of the Merdeka celebrations, so we decided to order dinner through Grab again. From Warung JNA Bapatoh, we ordered:
- Pulut Kuning Daging Gulai
- Pulut Kuning Ikan Aya
- Nasi Dagang
Everything came to RM33.30 (about USD8/EUR7). After dinner, we started another load of laundry and waited for it to finish before locking up and heading back to the rest house at 9:00pm.
Ending the Day
It was a full day of chores, small victories, and quiet moments — the kind of pottering around that always feels satisfying.
Stay tuned for our next video for even more pottering around.
