IPH Day 2 │ Ming Court • Concubine Lane • Sin Yoon Loong!

A Cool Morning in Ipoh

The heavy downpour the night before cooled the weather nicely. We woke up at 7:30am and were out the door an hour later, ready for a proper morning walkabout. Our first stop: Ming Court Dim Sum, about a kilometre away.

Breakfast at Ming Court

We walked north along Jalan Dato Tahwil Azar, crossed Jalan Sultan Iskandar, continued straight until Jalan Sultan Idris, then turned right onto Jalan Leong Sin Nam. In no time, we arrived at Ming Court and were lucky enough to get a seat.

We ordered an assortment of dim sum dishes for a total of RM54.15 (about USD13/EUR11). It was a satisfying start to the day.

Exploring Ipoh Old Town

With breakfast done, we began our walkabout in earnest. We headed north along Jalan Raja Ekram, then turned west onto Jalan Sultan Idris Shah. After about a kilometre, we crossed over to Jalan Bandar Timah and explored the famous Panglima Lane and Market Lane — better known as Concubine Lane and Second Concubine Lane.

We couldn’t locate Hale Lane (Wife Lane), but we enjoyed wandering through the area. From there, we continued to the Birch Memorial Clock Tower, then crossed Jalan Sultan Iskandar onto Jalan Market, eventually looping back to Jalan Bandar Timah.

A Coffee Break at Sin Yoon Loong

We stopped at Sin Yoon Loong for drinks and ordered:

  • a large Ipoh White Coffee
  • Iced Lemon Tea
  • Egg Custard

Everything came to RM12.60 (about USD/EUR3). A perfect mid morning break.

Heading Back to The Majestic

We made our way back by walking east along Jalan Sultan Iskandar, crossing the Kinta River, then turning right onto Jalan Masjid. From there, we continued onto Jalan Onn Jaafar and headed south until we reached Imperial Tower at The Majestic.

We rode the elevator up to the homestay, ready for a shower and a well earned rest.

Stay tuned for our next video as we finally explore Gerbang Malam.
