Ulik Mayang (Closed Down)

Nasi Dagang Ulik Mayang,
55G, Jalan Melati Utama 4
Taman Melati Utama, Setapak
53100 Kuala Lumpur

I've posted about this restaurant some time back but was frankly engrossed with its its interior. This time, let’s take a closer look at the food!

Naturally their specialty is nasi dagang

Brendan had nasi dagang with chicken

While we had it with fish

The keropok was a little stale, but edible

you won't miss it

KK Kopitiam (Sri Rampai)

KK Kopitiam
No. 16, Jalan Rampai Niaga 1
Rampai Business Park, Taman Sri Rampai
53300 Kuala Lumpur
Coordinates: 3.196806, 101.728056

Now this is more my cup of tea, a down-to-earth honest-to-goodness everyday food for the everyday person kind of restaurant.

We come here quite often. This particular outlet (I'm quite sure this is a chain of restaurants) is in Sri Rampai, Setapak.

Food I can eat everyday of the week

Standard mixed rice affair

Brendan's favourite japanese tofu

The exterior

You can't miss it

T-Bowl (Closed Down)

T-Bowl @ Sungei Wang Plaza
F-No 41 & 42, Jalan Bukit Bintang
55100 Kuala Lumpur
Tel: +60321411606

Finally got a chance to visit T-Bowl (or literally Toilet Bowl). Last time around Cat and Brendan came during the school holdays without me (sob).

What was it like? Minus the decor, furniture, fixtures and fittings its like most other concept restaurants. The food was okay, nothing to shout about and a bit pricey if you ask me.

Don't get me wrong, I'm coming from the perspective of 'everyday food for the everyday person' and this does not strike me as a place you'd want to come more than once a month, I think.

Still the concept of a restaurant decoration with bathroom and toilet furniture and fittings intrigued me. So here goes..

3rd Flr, Sg Wang Plaza

Here we go then

The menu's cute enough

Brendan's meal came first, can't remember what he ordered

The drinks were a 'jarring' experience

Then came ours

Brendan was more preoccupied with his drink

And banana split

A quick pitstop before we left.. hehe (chill, its only a prop)

All in all, paying a premium to have hawker stall fare (frankly the food was not memorable) served in a place with toilet bowls and other bathroom stuff ultimately does not appeal to me, and  I'll give this a pass.. IMHO that is.

Note: This eatery, like so many others before it, has gone down the toilet (forgive my poor pun).

Restoran Ulu Yam

Restoran Ulu Yam*
No. 119 Ground Floor Jalan 3/23A
Taman Danau Kota Off Jalan Genting Klang
53300 Kuala Lumpur
Coordinates: 3.199444, 101.718194
*you can find our most recent review here

Drove around aimlessly on New Year's day and found a shop in Setapak called Restoran Ulu Yam.

not visible from the main road, so GPS would be best:)

Perusing the menu

Brendan had the hokkien mee

Cat sampling a taste

The home made fish cakes were really good

This is their specialty

Claypot noodles in yam gravy

A bit pricey though
We left the shop wondering about its name. Restoran Ulu Yam because it originated from Ulu Yam, or because of their specialty dish, the claypot noodles in yam gravy?

Maybe someone can enlighten us.

Happy 2011!

We went to Dataran Merdeka for the new year's countdown and to shoot the pyrotechnics display. I won't say much, I'd rather let the photos do the talking.. enjoy my 'fire in the sky'!

We gave Cat a treat for her birthday and took her to lunch at TGI Friday's at Wangsa Walk. The first thing that struck us was the limited menu. Apparently it had to do with New Year's eve? Hmm..

Brendan couldn't wait

Can't pronounce (nor spell) the dish she ordered

The birthday girl looking serene

Menu was limited that day due to it being New Year's Even and all

Not that the birthday girl wasn't complaining

Eat and be merry, as we always do
