A Lazy Sunday Turned TRX Trek
It was a lazy Sunday morning. Three weeks after returning from Kuching, I was knee deep in video editing when the urge for an impromptu outing struck. We decided to head to The Exchange TRX Mall — home to the biggest UNIQLO store in Malaysia.
We left home at 11:00am and walked to the Bandaraya LRT station. My Touch ’n Go card only had RM4.30 (≈USD/EUR1) left, so the turnstile refused me. After topping up RM100 (≈USD26/EUR22), we continued to the platform and boarded a train to Plaza Rakyat.
From there, we switched to the Merdeka MRT station and caught a Kajang bound train. We arrived at TRX MRT at 12:45pm for a total fare of RM1.90 (≈ USD0.50/EUR0.40). A fun fact: you can catch the Putrajaya line from this station too.
Lunch at Food Exchange
Feeling hungry, we headed to the Concourse floor and browsed the Food Exchange stalls. We settled on Hokkaido Ramen and ordered:
- Saba Teriyaki Bento
- Chicken Nanban Bento
Total: RM50.90 (≈USD13/EUR11).
From the drinks stall, we added:
- Ribena with Lemon
- Ribena with Lychee
Total: RM14 (≈USD4/EUR3).
Our combined bill of RM64.90 (≈USD17/EUR14) felt steep after Kuching prices, but fair for an upmarket mall. Lunch was enjoyable, and we were ready to explore.
Browsing the Mall
We rode the escalators up to the second floor and stopped by Skechers — no deals, so we moved on. At Levi’s, we found:
- a denim bucket hat (for me)
- a straw bucket hat (for Cat)
Total: RM156.80 (≈USD40/EUR34).
Back on the first floor, we visited Cat’s perennial favourite: Bath & Body Works. She picked up discounted items:
- Gingham Body Lotion
- Dahlia Body Lotion
- Iced Lemon Poundcake Foam Soap
Total: RM66.75 (≈USD17/EUR15).
The Big UNIQLO
Next stop: the massive UNIQLO outlet. I ended up getting four AIRism T shirts for RM199.60 (≈USD51/EUR44). We then took the internal escalator down to the concourse and crossed over to LC Waikiki, where Cat found a printed summer dress for RM59.90 (≈USD15/EUR15).
Right outside was the Arabica coffee stall — once famous for long queues. Today, it was quiet. Curious, I tried a hot café latte for RM18.87 (≈USD5/EUR4). Smooth, pleasant, but not something I’d queue endlessly for.
Heading Home
By this point, we had walked more than 7,000 steps. We made our way back to TRX MRT and boarded the Sungai Buloh bound train. At Merdeka, we switched to Plaza Rakyat LRT and continued to Bandaraya — again for RM1.90 (≈USD0.50/EUR0.40).
From there, it was a short walk home.
What’s Next
Stay tuned — next week we spend forty eight hours in Sekinchan.
