24H @ Bukit Bintang │ Golden Dragon 3D Anamorphic Show!

It’s Chap Goh Meh!

We met you again after the heavy rain finally eased. With the streets still wet and shining, we walked just a few minutes from our Airbnb to a place we had been looking forward to all evening.

To mark this auspicious day, we had booked a table at Da Long Yi Hotpot. Unfortunately, Brendan could not join us, as he already had plans with his university friends. Still, we were excited—this was our first ever hotpot experience.

A Warm Welcome After the Rain

The downpour delayed us, and we arrived later than planned. Even so, the staff kindly held on to our reservation, which we appreciated. It already felt like a good start.

Their website proudly claimed, “Let the world fall in love with Chengdu flavour.” After that night, we could honestly say we did.

Our First Hotpot Feast

Since it was our first time, we took our time studying the menu before ordering. In the end, we chose:

  • Half portion of Belgium Iberico pork slice
  • Half portion of Kurobuta pork belly slice
  • Pork shoulder slices
  • Handmade mushroom pork meatballs
  • Handmade fish balls
  • Handmade water chestnut pork balls
  • Deep fried bean curd
  • Enoki mushrooms
  • Baby cabbage
  • Abalone fried rice
  • 1 can of Tiandi apple vanilla

The food kept arriving, and with each bite, we understood the appeal of Chengdu style hotpot more and more.

An Evening to Remember

We decided to let the footage tell most of the story, because some experiences truly needed to be seen rather than explained. The flavours, the warmth of the meal, and the slow pace of eating made the evening feel special.

Our dinner came to RM228.40 (≈ USD48/EUR44). This included SST of RM11.81, a service charge of RM19.69, and a dine in charge of RM6.00 per person. It was a little pricey by our usual standards, but absolutely worth it for such a memorable first hotpot experience.

Wrapping Up the Night

Full, content, and happily tired, we ended the night feeling that Chap Goh Meh could not have been celebrated in a better way.

24H @ Bukit Bintang │ AIRBNB: Bintang Fairlane

It’s Chap Goh Meh!

In the spirit of the festivities, we booked an Airbnb at Bintang Fairlane Residences. We arrived early and decided to spend lunchtime at SB Corner, the Indian restaurant conveniently located just across the street.

An Odd Check In Experience

After lunch, we walked back and registered at the security desk to check in. What followed was a rather puzzling process. We were first asked to fill out a long registration form, only to be asked immediately after for an identity card. Once scanned, all the same details—full name and address—were captured digitally anyway.

It left us wondering why we had to go through such a tedious handwritten process before providing the same information electronically. Perhaps the management of Bintang Fairlane Residences had a little soul searching to do.

Settling In

Once that was done, we headed up to the 20th floor and entered our Airbnb. We decided to let the footage tell the full story of the unit. After dropping off our bags and taking a short breather, we headed out again, this time to run a few errands at Plaza Low Yat, just a short walk away.

The Morning After

The next morning, we checked out at 10:45am and made our way back across the street to SB Corner once more. We had brunch there and also packed takeaway rice with fried chicken for lunch later in the day.

It was a relaxed and fitting way to wrap up our Chap Goh Meh stay.

Do stay tuned for our upcoming videos, where we went on an impromptu walkabout around Bukit Bintang and stumbled upon an awesome hotpot dinner to end the day on a high note.

It’s Chap Goh Meh!

To mark the final day of the Lunar New Year celebrations, we decided to do something a little special. In the spirit of Chap Goh Meh, we booked an Airbnb at Bintang Fairlane Residences, right in the heart of Bukit Bintang.

Checking In, Slowly

Around lunchtime, we hailed a Grab car from our condo to Bukit Bintang for RM20.00 (≈ USD4 / EUR4). Since we arrived early, we decided to have lunch at an Indian restaurant just across the street—SB Corner, a place we had come to know during our first stay at Hazel’s Airbnb back in December.

A Familiar Lunch

Without much hesitation, we ordered our usual favourites:

  • Brendan had rice with fried chicken and curry
  • Cat ordered her fried bee hoon
  • I had a puri, followed by a vadai
  • We shared a round of iced tea
  • I also had a hot cup of Nescafe

Lunch came to RM29.70 (≈ USD6/EUR6). It was simple, comforting, and exactly what we wanted.

At three, we made our way back and finally checked into the Airbnb.

Brunch the Next Day

The following morning, we checked out of the Airbnb and returned to SB Corner, this time for brunch. We ordered:

  • Brendan had two roti canai
  • Cat ordered roti telur
  • I went for a thosai (dosa)
  • Each of us also took away a packet of rice with fried chicken

Along with a generous round of drinks, our brunch and packed lunch came to RM49.50 (≈ USD10/EUR10).

After eating, we hailed a Grab car back to our condo for RM9.00 (≈ USD2/EUR2).

What’s Next

It was a relaxed and fitting way to wrap up the festivities—good food, familiar places, and an easy pace.

Do stay tuned for our upcoming videos, where we checked into the Airbnb properly and later enjoyed an awesome hotpot dinner during an impromptu walkabout in the city.

LRT-MRT-GOKL: Midvalley to Metro Prima and Back!

Sunday Errand, Unexpectedly Busy

We had planned for a lazy Sunday at home. Instead, an unplanned errand sent us out the door at nine in the morning, heading toward Masjid Jamek LRT Station.

A Festive Mission

With a Chinese New Year gathering coming up at work—and my birthday less than two weeks away—we needed a suitable outfit. Ideally, we were hoping to find a hanfu, traditional Chinese attire.

We walked along Jalan Bunus 6, turned onto Jalan Masjid India, then continued down Jalan Melayu until we reached the station. From there, we took the LRT to Abdullah Hukum for RM1.90 (≈ USD0.50/EUR0.40) and walked the covered pathway leading into The Gardens and Mid Valley Megamall.

Breakfast First

Since we arrived early and most shops were still closed, we decided on breakfast at the food court inside AEON BIG. We chose Coco Cafe and ordered nasi lemak and toasted bread sets, each served with teh tarik.

Breakfast came to RM10.40 per set (≈ USD2/EUR2). It was simple, warm, and just right for the morning.

The Search Continues

After breakfast, we began our hunt for the hanfu. An hour later, we came up empty handed. Rather than force it, we decided to try another location.

We made our way back to Abdullah Hukum, returned to Masjid Jamek, switched to the Sentul Line, then changed again at Titiwangsa to the MRT Kwasa Damansara Line. We finally got off at Metro Prima MRT Station, paying a total of RM4.70 (≈ USD/EUR1) for the combined ride.

A Festive Alternative

At AEON Metro Prima, we searched the men’s department but did not find any hanfu. However, a brightly coloured festive shirt caught our eye. It felt right, so we bought it for RM109.00 (≈ USD23/EUR21).

Lunch and Treats

Since it was close to lunchtime, we browsed the food stalls and settled on the Sizzling & Claypot stall. We ordered sizzling mushroom chicken yee and sizzling chicken rice with mushroom. Together with drinks from another stall, lunch came to RM30.70 (≈ USD6/EUR6).

Before heading home, we stopped by La Boheme and picked up a bag of pastries for RM42.60 (≈ USD9/EUR8).

Heading Home

We returned to Metro Prima MRT Station, took the train back to Titiwangsa for RM2.80 (≈ USD0.70/EUR0.60), and boarded a free GoKL Blue Line bus to Sogo Kuala Lumpur. From there, it was a short walk back home.

The day did not go exactly as planned, but it felt productive and quietly satisfying—proof that even a lazy Sunday could turn into a full little adventure.

ASTANA Restaurant Again: Kazakh Cuisine!

We Miss Russian (and Kazakh) Cuisine

It was the third day of Chinese New Year, and since it was still a public holiday, the city moved at a slower pace. We finished editing a long series of videos from our 24 hour sojourn at Central Market the night before and slept in. By the time we finally woke up, it was already a quarter to eleven. We did not rush. By noon, we were ready to head out for lunch.

Brendan chose to stay home and continue with his beauty sleep, so it was just the two of us. We set our sights on Sri Petaling, where our favourite Kazakh restaurant, Astana, was located. It had been almost two years since we last featured this place on our channel, and we had been longing to return.

Back at Astana

The restaurant was quiet when we arrived, which meant we could choose the best table right in the centre. It felt familiar, comforting, and exactly where we wanted to be. This revisit felt overdue.

We ordered almost the exact same spread as our previous visit:

  • Olivie salad
  • Borsh
  • Beef Plov
  • Horsemeat Plov
  • 3 skewers of lamb shashlyk
  • A jug of Kvas

We also took away half a dozen manty to enjoy later.

Comfort Food from the Steppes

Every dish tasted as good as we remembered. Rich, hearty, and deeply satisfying, this was the kind of meal that lingered long after the plates were cleared. Including the takeaway manty, our lunch came to RM174.00 (≈ USD37/EUR34).

It was a little pricey by our usual standards, but for the quality, flavours, and experience, it was absolutely worth it.

Highly Recommended

Astana remained one of those rare places we could recommend without hesitation. If you ever found yourself craving Russian or Central Asian food in Kuala Lumpur, this was the place.

Some meals fed the stomach.

Others nourished the soul.

This one did both.

24H @ Central Market │ Mondo Cafe • Tajudin Nasi Beriani

Chinese New Year Day

We were completely cream crackered after last night’s long walk, so we allowed ourselves to sleep in. We finally woke up at a quarter past ten, took our time to shower, packed our bags, and headed down to the lobby to check out. Once again, the process was quick and painless.

Brunch Before Heading Home

Instead of rushing off, we walked next door to Mondo Café for brunch. We scanned the QR code, took our time choosing, and eventually ordered:

  • Chicken Parmigiana
  • Fish and Chips
  • Chicken Chop with Black Pepper Sauce
  • 2 glasses of Peach Iced Tea
  • 1 Apple Crush

Our Western style brunch, including a 10% service charge and 6% service tax, came to RM119.90 (≈ USD25/EUR23). It was hearty, comforting, and exactly what we needed after the previous night.

Beating the Crowds

After brunch, we planned to hail a Grab car, but traffic around the hotel was already turning gnarly. We decided to walk instead, luggage in hand, along Leboh Pasar Besar, hoping to catch a bus. No luck. We continued onto Medan Pasar and Jalan Tun H.S. Lee, but buses were nowhere in sight.

The area was absolutely packed with people from all over the world. At one point, we looked at each other and laughed—it felt like we were the foreigners in our own city.

Finally on the Bus

We kept walking north, crossed Jalan Tun Perak, and continued onto Lebuh Ampang. Finally, some luck. We caught RapidKL bus #173 for RM1.00 (≈ USD/EUR0.20), which brought us to our familiar bus stop along Jalan Munshi Abdullah.

From there, it was a short walk back home, where we were warmly greeted by our old friends Abang Razali and Kak Intan.

Wrapping Up a Festive Escape

And just like that, our 24 hour sojourn around the Central Market area came to an end. It was tiring, festive, crowded, and memorable—all at once.

If all went well, we planned to spend the next day enjoying a car free morning, easing gently back into routine after the buzz of the celebrations.

Happy Chinese New Year once again!

24H @ Central Market │ Night Stroll: River of Life • Petaling Street

Chinese New Year Eve by the River

After dinner at Precious Old China in Central Market, we headed back up to our rooms to change into something more comfortable. With the night still young, we decided to go for a gentle stroll to usher in the Lunar New Year in a quieter, more reflective way.

The River of Life

We walked toward the River of Life, where the Gombak River met and flowed into the Klang River. This area, often referred to as Kolam Biru (the Blue Pool), had been designed to turn the river convergence into a sensory space. A dancing fountain, soft fog, and changing lights reflected off the water, transforming the historic area into something calm and almost dreamlike.

Nearby stood the Sultan Abdul Samad Jamek Mosque, one of Kuala Lumpur’s oldest mosques, completed in 1909. Designed by Arthur Benison Hubback, it felt timeless and peaceful against the glow of the lights.

Instead of fireworks and firecrackers, we welcomed the new year with flowing water, mist, and light—quiet, graceful, and fitting.

Wandering Through Old Streets

We continued our walk along Jalan Benteng, behind Central Market, then crossed Jalan Tun Sambanthan and Jalan Hang Kasturi before reaching Jalan Hang Lekir. From there, we found ourselves right in the heart of Petaling Street Market, still lively despite the late hour.

We walked east along Jalan Hang Lekir, turned right onto Jalan Sultan, then continued south and west until we reached Jalan Panggung. Turning into Lorong Panggung, we slipped into Kwai Chai Fong, a narrow alley also known as Little Ghost Lane. Soft lighting revealed murals and textures that carried echoes of the past. We paused, took a few photos, and soaked it all in.

A Startling Moment

As we crossed back toward Jalan Tun Sambanthan, an overzealous motorcyclist attempted to beat a red light and narrowly missed crashing into pedestrians. We stopped him firmly and made it clear how dangerous that move was before continuing on.

Ending the Night Simply

We slowed things down with drinks at Restoran Yusoof dan Zakhir, then made our way back to the hotel, bringing our evening stroll to a close.

It had been a long day—but also a gentle, meaningful one.

Happy Chinese (Lunar) New Year to all.

24H @ Central Market │ Precious Old China: Sa Cap Meh Dinner

Chinese New Year Eve

In the Hokkien dialect, Chinese New Year Eve was known as Sa Cap Meh, which literally meant the thirtieth night. It marked the final and most meaningful moment of the Lunar New Year celebrations and was also known as Chinese Valentine’s Day.

Last year, we celebrated Sa Cap Meh in Melaka. This year, we chose to stay closer to home.

Dinner Plans in the City

After checking into Pacific Express Hotel Central Market, we planned to walk over to Precious Old China for our Sa Cap Meh dinner. Even though we had visited Central Market many times over the years, we had never noticed this small restaurant until we found it on Tripadvisor.

Their website described the place as offering a cosy dining experience surrounded by Malaysian antiques and vintage colonial furniture. That alone already convinced us to try it.

A Quiet Start

We made a reservation for 7:00pm and bought a RM100 set menu voucher for two to three people through the FunNow app. At the appointed hour, we walked from the hotel to Central Market next door.

When we entered the restaurant, no one greeted us at first. Everyone seemed busy, so we waited patiently before being shown to our table. It felt a little awkward, but once seated, we relaxed and took our time.

A Nyonya Feast

After carefully looking through the menu, we ordered:

  • Devil Curry Chicken
  • Ikan Api Api
  • Belacan Four King Beans
  • Plain Omelette
  • Butterfly Pea Rice
  • A pot of Jasmine Chinese Tea

Our Nyonya dinner came to RM135.50 (≈ USD28/EUR26), including service charge and tax. Since we had already paid RM100.00 for the voucher earlier, we only needed to top up RM35.50 (≈ USD8/EUR7).

The food was comforting, familiar, and deeply satisfying—exactly the kind of meal we wanted on such a meaningful night.

Ending the Evening Gently

After dinner, we walked back to the hotel and changed into more comfortable clothes. The festivities were not over yet.

Stay tuned for our next video as we took a night stroll to the River of Life and beyond, closing out Sa Cap Meh in the calm glow of the city.

Chinese New Year Eve

In the Hokkien dialect, the eve of Chinese New Year was known as Sa Cap Meh, which meant the “thirtieth night.” It marked the final moments before the new year arrived and always carried a special feeling of anticipation.

Last year, we celebrated Sa Cap Meh in Melaka at Kocik Heritage. This year, we decided to stay closer to home.

Checking In Near Central Market

At three in the afternoon, we took a Grab car to Pacific Express Hotel Central Market. The ride cost RM21.00 (≈ USD/EUR4), which felt a little higher than usual. We guessed it was because many drivers were taking the day off before the festival.

The check in process was smooth and pleasant. The hotel kindly arranged for our two rooms to be side by side, just as we had requested. We booked two twin rooms for RM316.52 (≈ USD67/EUR62), which included 6% VAT and a 10% property service charge. Once inside, we let the footage tell the full story of the rooms.

Drinks and Desserts

After dropping off our bags, we went back out for drinks. We first walked over to Central Market to check out the cafés there, but nothing really caught our eye.

Brendan had his heart set on Secret Recipe, so we headed there instead. After scanning the QR code, we ordered:

  • 1 cup of Ipoh White Coffee
  • 1 glass of Iced Honey Lemonade
  • 1 glass of Apple Citrus Fizz
  • 1 serving of Shinjuku Caramel
  • 1 slice of Chocolate Indulgence
  • 1 slice of Strawberry Rose

With a 10% service charge and 6% service tax, our drinks and cakes came to RM65.30 (≈ USD14/EUR13).

A Quiet Night In

Before heading upstairs, we stopped by a nearby 7 Eleven to buy bottled water. We then returned to our rooms to rest and soak in the calm of Chinese New Year Eve.

It felt nice to slow down and celebrate simply, knowing the new year was just hours away.

Stay tuned for our next video, where we explored Precious Old China and continued our festive journey.

MATIC: The Borneo Songket Heritage Festival 2024

Borneo Festival Walkabout

We met you again after lunch at Restoran Kader, where we decided to continue our day with something cultural. From there, we caught RapidKL bus #300 to Jalan Ampang. The bus fare was only RM1.00 (≈ USD0.20 / EUR0.20). We got off at the Renaissance Hotel bus stop and walked across to the Malaysian Tourism Information Centre (MATIC).

Borneo Songket Heritage Festival 2024

The Borneo Songket Heritage Festival 2024 was being held there, and we were excited to explore. We wandered through the stalls slowly, taking in the colours, textures, and craftsmanship. Many of the items were things we rarely saw elsewhere, which made the experience even more special.

Cat especially enjoyed browsing, and we picked up several beautiful handmade items:

  • A pair of handmade clay earrings for RM25.00
  • Four batik scrunchies for RM20.00
  • A bottle of jam for RM8.00
  • A bottle of sambal for RM8.00
  • Two pairs of Lun Bawang earrings for RM20.00
  • One Lun Bawang bracelet for RM25.00

Meeting a Familiar Face

One of the highlights was meeting Caroline, our favourite beadstress. From her stall, we bought:

  • One pair of Kabo earrings for RM30.00
  • One Kelabit necklace for RM190.00

Each piece felt thoughtful and meaningful, made with care and tradition.

Well Worth It

By the end of our visit, we had spent RM326.00 in total (≈ USD69/EUR64). It was money well spent to us, as many of these handmade items were not easily found elsewhere. We were happy to support local artisans and bring home pieces with real stories behind them.

Heading Home

With our hands full and hearts happy, we walked out of MATIC and made our way home, feeling that the afternoon had been both relaxing and meaningful.

Be sure to catch our previous video, where we kicked off the day running errands at Plaza Low Yat and Pudu Plaza and enjoyed a classic banana leaf lunch at Restoran Kader.

Restoran KADER: Banana Leaf Rice!

Banana Leaf Rice, Again

We met you again after finishing our errands and headed straight for lunch. It had been almost three years since we last featured Kader Banana Leaf Restaurant on our channel, and we felt it was finally time to return.

A Long Awaited Revisit

We took a train to Masjid Jamek Station, paying RM1.40 (≈ USD0.40/EUR0.30) for the ride. From there, we walked across Jalan Tun Perak and continued along Lebuh Ampang until we reached Kader.

Stepping back inside felt familiar and comforting. Some places did not change, and that was exactly what made them special.

Banana Leaf, the Way We Loved It

We ordered what we came for and did not hold back:

  • The full banana leaf rice spread
  • A variety of side dishes and curries
  • One shared serving of chicken varuval
  • Iced tea for each of us
  • Hot masala tea to finish

Our banana leaf lunch came to RM41.50 (≈ USD9/EUR8).
Every bite reminded us why we kept returning. The chicken varuval was rich and deeply spiced, while the masala tea was bold and warming. We honestly felt that both were among the best we had ever had in Kuala Lumpur.

Onward to Something New

We left Kader at two in the afternoon, full and content. Just outside, we boarded RapidKL bus #300, paying RM1.00 (≈ USD0.20/EUR0.20), and headed toward Jalan Ampang.

Our next stop was the Borneo Songket Heritage Festival 2024, and we were more than ready to explore.

Stay tuned for our next post, where we take you along to the festival and show you what caught our eye.

SATURDAY Runaround: Plaza LOW YAT • PUDU Plaza • MATIC

Saturday Stroll

Two days after our dragon chasing adventure, we were itching to get back out and continue testing the DJI Action 4. It felt like the right day for a slow walk through the city.

Heading Out

We left our condo at a quarter past eleven and walked, as we often did, to the bus stop outside Sarah Hughes along Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman. Not long after, we boarded the free GoKL Red Line bus to KL Sentral.

From there, we walked deep into the station and entered Muzium Negara MRT. Eight minutes later, we caught a train to Bukit Bintang for RM1.60 (≈ USD/EUR0.30).

Shopping for Gear

We exited at Gate C onto Jalan Bulan and made our way to Plaza Low Yat. Upstairs on the second floor, we stopped at Sri Computers. Running low on storage, we bought a 5 terabyte Western Digital My Passport external hard drive for RM609.00 (≈ USD129/EUR119).

After that, we headed back down and took a Grab car to Pudu Plaza for RM8.00 (≈ USD/EUR2). Inside, we visited YL Camera Services, our second favourite camera shop. We picked up a Benro tripod with video head for RM400.00 (≈ USD85/EUR78) and a Benro mini tripod for RM100.00 (≈ USD21/EUR20) for an upcoming work assignment.

Walking and Lunch Stop

We left Pudu Plaza and walked through Jalan Landak, Jalan Kancil, and across busy Jalan Pudu. We passed the long queues outside Sek Yuen and continued toward Pudu LRT Station.

From there, we took a train to Masjid Jamek for RM1.40 (≈ USD/EUR0.30) and walked to Restoran Kader along Lebuh Ampang. Our banana leaf lunch there was deeply satisfying, and we would share that experience properly in another video.

Culture at MATIC

At two in the afternoon, we caught RapidKL bus #300 to Jalan Ampang for RM1.00 (≈ USD/EUR0.20). We got off near the Renaissance Hotel and walked to MATIC, where the Borneo Songket Heritage Festival 2024 was taking place.

We spent a good amount of time browsing the stalls and came away with a beautiful haul for Cat. That deserved its own feature, so we saved the details for another post.

A Rainy Ride Home

After leaving MATIC, we planned to catch a bus along Jalan Ampang, but barriers blocked the stop. We walked toward KLCC instead and followed the crowd to board a RapidKL bus #302. Just as we settled in, the rain started pouring.

The bus turned unexpectedly onto Jalan Yap Kwan Seng and eventually dropped us back at Titiwangsa Bus Hub for RM1.00 (≈ USD/EUR0.20). We had come full circle.

From there, we boarded the free GoKL Red Line again and returned to Sarah Hughes along Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman.

Ending the Day

It was a short walk home, but not before stopping by the Saturday night market nearby to grab a bite. Tired but content, we finally called it a day.

Hopefully, next time we would wake up early enough to enjoy a peaceful car free Sunday morning.

ROAR-some │ Lion Dance!

Lion Dance Surprise

We met you again after finishing our mall hopping mission to capture Chinese New Year decorations. With tired feet, we decided to rest for a while at Starbucks inside LaLaport Bukit Bintang City Centre, thinking the afternoon was winding down.

We were wrong.

When the Lions Appeared

Without much warning, the sound of drums and cymbals filled the air. A lion dance performance suddenly came alive right before us. What started as a quiet coffee break quickly turned into an intense and exciting spectacle.

From that point on, there was not much for us to say—only to let the performance speak for itself. For the next twenty minutes or so, we watched in awe as the lion dancers performed nerve racking acrobatics atop high poles, balancing, leaping, and moving with incredible precision.

It was thrilling, breath holding, and impossible to look away.

A Fellow Creator Moment

During the performance, we also made an unexpected connection. We struck up a conversation with a fellow YouTuber, who was filming the performance using the DJI Action 4, just like us. We exchanged greetings, subscribed to each other’s channels, and shared notes about the camera and shooting techniques.

If you’re a fan of lion dance performances, you can check out his channel, Lion Dance TV, where he captures these moments with great dedication.

Wrapping Up the Day

What began as a simple rest stop turned into one of the most exciting moments of the day—a reminder that festive seasons often saved their best surprises for when you least expected them.

Be sure to catch our previous video, where we visited five malls to capture Chinese New Year decorations and enjoyed a Vietnamese lunch along the way.

ROAR-some │ VINH CITY Vietnamese Cuisine

Phở fection!

Halfway through our mall hopping, we decided it was time for lunch and headed to one of our oldest and firm favourites. It felt almost unreal to realise that it had been nearly three years since we last featured Vinh City Vietnamese Cuisine on our channel.

We first filmed here back in April 2021, during the early days of our channel. Since then, we had returned many times, quietly enjoying the food without ever picking up the camera. This visit felt long overdue.

Our Usual Order

Like clockwork, we ordered what had become our standard favourites: beef fried rice for us and beef phở for Cat. To go with that, we chose Vietnamese coffee and Vietnamese green tea, just as we always did.

As we flipped through the menu, though, we were surprised to see how much more the restaurant had to offer. We made a mental note to be a little more adventurous next time.

Still a Favourite

Our familiar lunch came to RM43.60 (≈ USD9/EUR9). Simple, comforting, and consistently good — exactly why we kept coming back.
It went without saying that we wholeheartedly recommended Vinh City Vietnamese Cuisine to anyone looking for an authentic and satisfying Vietnamese meal in the city.

Be sure to catch our previous video, where we visited five malls to capture Chinese New Year themed decorations and made our way here for this comforting lunch.

ROAR-some │ Thursday: 5 Mall Hop - Chasing Dragons!

It’s Federal Territory Day!

It was a public holiday in Kuala Lumpur, and with a new toy to test, we decided to head out around eleven in the morning. We walked to the bus stop in front of Sarah Hughes along Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman and caught a free GoKL Red Line bus to the Muzium Negara stop.

From there, we went down into Muzium Negara MRT Station and took a train toward Kajang for RM1.80 (≈ USD/EUR0.40). We got off at Tun Razak Exchange (TRX) to start the first of five malls we planned to visit that day. Our mission was simple: to capture the Chinese New Year decorations at each mall.

Mall One to Three

We finished filming at The Exchange TRX, then got back on the MRT toward Kwasa Damansara, paying RM1.20 (≈ USD/EUR0.30), and got off at Bukit Bintang. From there, we walked to Pavilion Kuala Lumpur and filmed both the indoor and outdoor festive displays.

Next, we walked along Jalan Bukit Bintang, crossed Jalan Sultan Ismail, and took an escalator past the monorail station into Sungei Wang Plaza. The decorations here were a little underwhelming, but it did not matter much because we had lunch planned. Be sure to catch our separate video on Vinh City Vietnamese Cuisine.

Mall Four and Five

After lunch, we walked across Jalan Bulan 1 and crossed a footbridge into Berjaya Times Square. We filmed the decorations there, then headed out along Jalan Imbi toward our final stop.

If you guessed LaLaport Bukit Bintang City Centre, you were right. It had quickly become one of our favourite malls. We spent time filming the festive displays, then took a break at Starbucks. We ordered a Toffee Nut Crunch Latte and a Butter Brew Frappuccino for only RM20.00 (≈ USD/EUR4).

Just as we sat down, a lion dance performance began out of nowhere. It was completely unexpected and absolutely thrilling, so be sure to catch that video.

A Fast Trip Home

We left LaLaport at half past three and walked to the Hang Tuah Monorail Station. We took the train to Medan Tuanku for RM2.60 (≈ USD/EUR0.50). Dark clouds were gathering quickly, so we walked briskly back to our condo.

That wrapped up our mini walkabout.

Stay tuned for our next video, where we (hopefully) woke up early enough to enjoy a peaceful car free Sunday morning.
