KCH Day 1 │ Lim Hock Ann Seafood • 500th Video!

Our 500th Video in Kuching

After our late lunch at Kim Coffee Garden in Kenyalang Park, we spent the afternoon unpacking and settling into Adelyn’s homestay. By evening, we were ready to head out again — this time for a seafood dinner to mark our 500th video.

A colleague from our Kuching branch had recommended the Buntal Esplanade, about an hour’s drive north of the city. With that in mind, we checked online and settled on Lim Hock Ann as our dinner destination.

Dinner by the South China Sea

We left at 5:15pm and arrived 45 minutes later. Lim Hock Ann sits right by the waterfront, overlooking the South China Sea. It’s described as a place known for fresh seafood, friendly service, and a relaxed, scenic atmosphere — a favourite among locals and visitors alike.

Since it was our first time here, we took our time browsing the menu before deciding on:

  • Ikan Siakap (Sea Bass) in Teochew Gravy
  • Lala in Lemongrass Soup
  • Buttered Prawns
  • White Rice (each)
  • Kedondong (Ambarella) Juice (each)

Our first dinner in Kuching came to RM126.60 (≈ USD30 / EUR26) — a bargain compared to Kuala Lumpur, where seafood prices are easily double.

A Smooth Drive Back

Since I was driving, we stayed clear of alcohol. The journey back to Kenyalang Park was quiet and uneventful, and we reached Adelyn’s homestay just as the sky turned dark.

What’s Next

We’ll be waking up early tomorrow to explore Kenyalang Park Market.

Stay tuned for that morning adventure!

KCH Day 1 │ MH2520 KUL to KCH • City One to Kenyalang Park!

An Early Start to Kuching

We were up at 6:00am and out the door an hour later. Brendan drove us to KL Sentral’s KL City Air Terminal at 6:50am. He had originally planned to join us, but with his final year project presentation coming up, we had to cancel his middle seat, 6E.

As always, we bought our KLIA Express tickets online and enjoyed the discount — RM43.75 (≈ USD10/EUR9) each. This mattered because the only way to check in at KL CAT is with KLIA Express tickets. We scanned them at the turnstile, entered the terminal, and sent our yellow submarines through security before checking them in. Our combined luggage weighed 25kg, well within the 40kg allowance.

Off to KLIA

We exited KL CAT, walked across to the KLIA Express gates, and used the same tickets to board the train. It departed at 7:30am and arrived at KLIA half an hour later. We took the escalators up to the Departure Level and settled at Costa Coffee for drinks.

Our hot latte and iced strawberry tea came to RM36.35 (≈ USD9/EUR8). We spent the next hour people watching before strolling to the domestic departure gates at 9:00am.

Boarding MH2520

Our flight, MH2520, was departing from Gate B9 at 11:00am. Boarding began at 10:30am. Brendan’s cancelled seat 6E was taken by Mr Chong, who kindly swapped with Cat’s aisle seat 6D — and the cabin crew had no objections.

Pushback was delayed due to a runway inspection, so we eventually took off at 11:25am. The flight was smooth, and we were served our inflight meal half an hour later. We both chose the Fish with Rice.

MH2520 began descending at 12:35pm and landed about thirty minutes later. After clearing Customs & Immigration, we collected our bags from Carousel C and walked out to meet our regular car rental guy, Awang Amirul — always reliable, always friendly.

He handed us the keys to a blue Perodua Bezza. After mounting our camera, we drove to our regular homestay in Kampung Kenyalang Park, hosted by the wonderful Adelyn.

First Meal in Kuching

After a quick shower, we walked out in search of a late lunch and settled on Kim Coffee Garden. We ordered:

  • Sarawak Laksa
  • Curry Mee
  • Iced Milk Tea
  • their signature Coffee

Our first Sarawakian meal came to RM26 (≈ USD6/EUR5). We then walked to Everwin Supermarket for some provisions before heading back to the homestay.

What’s Next

Stay tuned — next, we head out for dinner an hour’s drive away.

TGG to KUL │ MS Resthouse • Paka R&R • City One!

Going Home to Kuala Lumpur

Our fifth and final day marked the end of our stay, and it was time to head back to Kuala Lumpur. We woke up at six in the morning and were out the door forty minutes later, ready for the long drive ahead.

Saying Goodbye

We walked over to where BiBi was parked and, after a few attempts, finally managed to fit all our luggage into the boot. With that done, we checked out of the rest house and officially began our journey home.

One Last Breakfast Attempt

Our first plan was to drive to Batu Buruk for breakfast at Kak Pah Nasi Dagang. Unfortunately, she had not opened yet, so we decided to continue on our way. By a quarter past seven, we passed the Kuala Terengganu toll plaza and settled into the drive.

A Stop Along the Way

At a quarter past eight, we stopped at the Paka rest area for breakfast. We tried their unique green nasi lemak and ordered some drinks to go with it. The meal was simple, satisfying, and came to RM23.50 (≈USD6/EUR5).

After a quick bathroom break, we got back on the road at five to nine.

The Long Drive South

The next three hours passed quietly, with very light traffic along the way. Most of the journey was calm and smooth, and we captured much of it on time lapse so you could enjoy the relaxing drive with us.

We arrived home at exactly twelve noon. Even with our forty minute stop, the full journey took us five hours from start to finish.

Until the Next Trip

With the car unpacked and us back home, the trip officially came to an end. We were already looking forward to our next adventure.

We planned to be in Kuching over the Gawai weekend in early June, so stay tuned for more travels ahead.

TGG Day 4 │ Pantai Batu Buruk • Kedai Makan MYM!

Batu Buruk Evening Drive

We met you again after the heat pushed us back into the cool comfort of the rest house. A quick shower lifted our spirits, and before long we returned to the home to spend a few hours on our separate chores.

Cat eventually took a nap while I finished editing the second video in our Kuala Terengganu series. With tomorrow’s drive in mind, we decided to head out for a short evening drive to Batu Buruk. We first stopped by the rest house to pick up Brendan, then set off together.

Sea Breeze at Sunset

At Batu Buruk, we paused for a while to take photos and enjoy the salty sea breeze. The air felt refreshing after the long day. As dusk began to settle in, we got back into BiBi and continued driving along the coast.

We carried on to Jalan Sultan Mahmud, drove a short distance, made a U turn at Kuala Ibai, and retraced our way back along the same road. It was a calm and pleasant drive with the evening light around us.

Fuel Stop and Dinner

We stopped at the Batu Buruk Petronas station to top up BiBi’s fuel and check the tyre pressure. After that, we continued on and eventually reached Pulau Warisan near Pasar Besar Kedai Payang.

Brendan was hungry, so we chose a nearby spot called Kedai Makan MYM for dinner. We ordered nasi lemak with fried turmeric beef, nasi minyak with chicken curry, nasi minyak with fried turmeric chicken, and three iced lemon teas. The total came to RM33.00 (≈USD8/EUR7), which felt very reasonable.

Wrapping Up the Day

After dinner, we drove back toward the home, stopping briefly at a 7 Eleven along Jalan Pejabat so Brendan could grab some snacks. Once back, we continued working on the day’s videos before returning to the rest house at ten to start packing.

Stay tuned for our next video as we make the return drive to Kuala Lumpur!

TGG Day 4 │ Pasar Kedai Payang!

Market Hunt in Kuala Terengganu

We managed to get a fairly good night’s sleep despite the drama the night before and woke up at half past seven. We gently woke Brendan, but he chose to enjoy a little more beauty sleep.

Laundry First, Then the Market

As usual, we got ready and walked over to the home at eight to start a load of laundry. No trip to Kuala Terengganu felt complete without a visit to Pasar Kedai Payang, a place very close to our hearts. We had fond memories of the old market, where we once followed a parent around while groceries were still incredibly cheap.

We arrived at Pasar Kedai Payang 1 at half past eight and went straight inside to look for breakfast.

Breakfast at the Market

There were several small food stalls lining the aisles. We chose the first one we saw, called Kayu Manis. The menu was simple, and we ordered nasi dagang, nasi minyak, and two sugar free iced teas. Breakfast cost only RM16.00 (≈ USD4/EUR3). and left us feeling very satisfied.

The Great Keropok Hunt

With breakfast done, we walked over to Pasar Kedai Payang 2 to begin our main mission. We strolled through the stalls selling keropok and serunding, comparing prices and varieties, before returning to Kak Salmah’s stall. That was where we really went all out.

We bought a generous mix of raw keropok, beef and chicken serunding, fish serunding rolls, and packets of instant keropok. Our haul came to RM345.00 (≈ USD81/EUR72), which we felt was well worth it since these items would cost much more back in Kuala Lumpur.

Browsing the New Market

We carried everything back to BiBi, packed it safely away, and then returned to Pasar Kedai Payang 1. Unlike the old market, the new building felt spacious and well organised, with neat rows of batik stalls. We explored both the ground floor and the upper level, though we had to admit that other places had spoiled us for batik shopping.

Back Home and Surprise Visitors

We headed back to the home to continue with our chores. Shortly after, Ah Seng the electrician arrived to install a solar lamp at the back of the house. He also moved the old faulty lamp to the front to see if it could still be saved.

Just as he was about to leave, our good friend Vinodh dropped by with a thoughtful gift of nasi dagang. We sat and chatted for a while before he headed off. He briefly considered joining us on our drive the next day but quickly changed his mind when he heard our early start time.

Beating the Heat

By two in the afternoon, the heat became too much. We retreated to the rest house, woke Brendan, and all had a refreshing shower. Downstairs, we shared the nasi dagang Vinodh had brought and enjoyed a relaxed late lunch together.

By half past three, we returned to the home. We continued working on our videos while Cat started another load of laundry, easing back into the rhythm of daily life.

Stay tuned for our next video as we headed out on another night drive.

TGG Day 3 │ Lim Sian Tian • Ah Huat • Grab Food!

More Chores, Little Wins

We met you again after breakfast as we returned from a round of errands. We had picked up an office chair and several household items from Mr. DIY, which already made the day feel productive.

Working From Home

Once we were back at the house, we got straight to work. We continued editing our videos while Cat focused on small chores in and around the home. We even managed to capture some of her work on time lapse, which later turned out quite nicely.

Lunchtime passed without notice. We were still full from our breakfast of nasi dagang and nasi kerabu, so there was no rush to eat again. We also called our regular plumber, Ah Huat, who told us he would come by at five in the evening.

A Schedule Change

We kept working and later walked back to the rest house at two for a quick shower and a change of clothes. Just as we were getting settled, Ah Huat called again to say he could arrive earlier, at three instead.

Right on time, we walked back to the house and found him waiting patiently. He replaced the faulty kitchen tap, helped by the photos we had sent earlier so he could bring the right part. The job took only ten minutes. The total cost, including parts and travel, came to RM80.00 (≈ USD19/EUR17), which we felt was very reasonable.

Late Lunch and More Errands

After that, we went out once more to Mr. DIY and bought more supplies worth RM104.70 (≈ USD24/EUR22). Feeling a little hungry, we ordered takeaway through Grab Food from Nasi Ayam KJ for RM32.80 (≈ USD8/EUR7). We chose chicken rice and iced drinks, placing the order just before four. Our late lunch arrived about forty minutes later and hit the spot.

With food out of the way, we returned to our chores and work for the rest of the evening. By half past seven, we were back at the rest house.

Dinner Together at Last

We were too tired to drive out, so Grab Food helped us again. Wanting local food, we ordered nasi minyak with chicken gravy and iced tea with Khemok Chicken for RM43.40 (≈ USD10/EUR9). The order went in just before we left the house, giving us enough time for a quick shower before the food arrived.

Downstairs, the rest house had a shared common area with tables, chairs, and a small pantry. We gathered there and finally shared a proper meal together as a family. It was the first time we had all eaten together since arriving.

A Long Day Winds Down

After dinner, Brendan went back to her room. We stayed behind, one of us finishing some work while the other relaxed and scrolled through social media. Feeling a bit too full, we ordered fizzy drinks through Grab Food for RM39.09 (≈ USD10/EUR9) one last time. The delivery took a very long time, so we quietly noted not to order from Titan Café again.

By half past ten, we headed back to our room, hoping for an early night.

Stay tuned for our next video as we went on a market hunt.

TGG Day 3 │ Lim Sian Tian • Pak Man Telo • Ban Soon Hin!

Sedulous Saturday

We had another good night’s sleep and woke up at 8:30am. Brendan chose to continue his beauty sleep, so once again it was just the two of us this morning.

As has become our routine, we got ready and walked over to the house at 9:20am to start a load of laundry before heading out for breakfast. Wanting something local, we made the short drive to Jalan Sultan Omar, near my old primary school, and parked in front of Warung Pok Man Telur.

Breakfast at Warung Pok Man

We joined the queue and quickly ordered:

  • Nasi Kerabu
  • Nasi Dagang
  • hot Nescafe
  • Iced Lemon Tea

We also picked up several packets of local sweet cakes. Breakfast total: RM28.00 (≈ USD7/EUR6).

We walked back to BiBi and drove toward home. Along Jalan Sultan Ismail, we stopped at Ban Soon Hin, the furniture shop owned by our neighbour Ng — better known as Ah Tee.

A New Office Chair

We were looking for an office chair for the long hours spent editing videos at the dining table. After trying a few options, we settled on a greyscale model for RM380.00 (≈ USD89/EUR79). No more backaches! The shop promised to deliver the fully assembled chair by noon, which suited us perfectly.

We chatted with Ah Tee for a bit before getting back into BiBi and making another short drive to Mr. DIY along Jalan Tengku Ampuan Mariam for more provisions — RM82.60 (≈ USD19/EUR17).

Back Home and Back to Work

We returned to the house, where I continued working on our videos while Cat pottered around. Right on the dot at noon, the new chair arrived — woot!

TGG Day 2 │ Lim Sian Tian • Eja Corner • Seng Huat!

Batu Buruk and Beyond

We picked you up again after returning from breakfast and running errands. The next few hours passed quickly as Cat and I focused on our respective chores — she at the washing machine, me at the laptop — until lunchtime crept up on us. Brendan chose to continue sleeping at the rest house, so we headed out without him.

Lunch at Batu Buruk

Almost every eatery we passed was closed for Friday prayers, so we kept driving until we reached Batu Buruk. Behind the Kuala Terengganu Aquatic Centre, we spotted a row of food stalls and parked BiBi. The nearest stall was Eja Corner, so we decided to give it a try.

We ordered:

  • Fried Yellow Noodles
  • Fried Rice Vermicelli
  • 12 sticks of Keropok Lekor
  • 1 Ikan Celup Tepung
  • 2 Coconut drinks
  • 1 Coconut Shake

Lunch came to RM44.00 (≈ USD10/EUR9).

A Big Electrical Haul

After lunch, we drove to Seng Huat Electrical to meet Ben. Our main target was a 26" industrial stand fan, but we ended up buying:

  • Phison Industrial Stand Fan PSF 6260
  • Karcher Wet & Dry Vacuum Cleaner WD 1
  • iSonic Stainless Steel Kettle IJK 1803

Total damage: RM600.00 (≈ USD140/EUR124).

We returned to the house to drop everything off, then went back to the rest house for a quick shower and change of clothes. Twenty minutes later, we walked back to the house to unbox our new toys.

Cat immediately unboxed her vacuum cleaner and happily cleaned the entire ground floor. The upstairs, however, was another story — we hoped to engage a day maid soon to tackle the mopping and window wiping.

Meanwhile, I assembled the massive 26" industrial fan. After a few hiccups, the behemoth finally stood tall. Even at speed 1, the breeze was powerful — we couldn’t imagine what speed 3 would feel like.

A Productive Evening

We spent the next few hours working — me editing videos, Cat doing laundry — and got a surprising amount done. Brendan eventually woke up and ordered McDonald’s via Grab. Later, I cut my finger on a condensed milk can, so he ran to FamilyMart for Dettol and bandages. In the evening, he made another run to FamilyMart and ZUS Coffee for snacks and drinks. None of this made it on camera, but trust us — the house is turning out to be a very strategic place to stay.

Neighbourhood Catch ups

We left the house at 9:15pm and bumped into our neighbour Ng. One chat led to another, and soon Heng joined us too. By the time we got back to the rest house, it was already past 10:00pm.

We’re having an authentic Terengganu breakfast experience next — stay tuned.

TGG Day 2 │ Lim Sian Tian • Al Mubin Maju • Sabasun!

Footle Friday

We had a good night’s sleep and woke up at 8:30am. By 9:15am, we were out the door and walking to the house to get a load of laundry going before heading out for breakfast. Since BiBi was badly in need of a shower, we decided to drive to Batas Baru, where a car wash and a nasi kandar restaurant sit side by side.

Breakfast While BiBi Gets a Bath

We handed BiBi over to the team at Warisan Car Wash and walked across to Al Mubin Maju for breakfast. We ordered:

  • Roti Canai Sardin
  • Roti Telur
  • hot Nescafe
  • Iced Tea

Breakfast came to RM16.00 (≈ USD4/EUR3).

When we returned to Warisan Car Wash, BiBi was gleaming — external wash and internal vacuuming for RM20.00 (≈ USD5/EUR4).

Groceries and Errands

Next, we drove to Sabasun Hyper Runcit at Bukit Kecil to pick up groceries for RM64.15. From there, we continued to Mr. DIY along Jalan Tengku Ampuan Mariam for more provisions — RM174.20 (≈ USD40/EUR36) worth.

Our final errand was a small bottle of Nescafe Gold from the 7 Eleven on Jalan Pejabat for RM15.00 (≈ USD4/EUR3).

With all errands done, we drove back to the house. I continued working on our videos while Cat pottered around, tidying and organising.

TGG Day 1 │ Lim Sian Tian • Zeeror Mini Market!

Dinner at Batu Buruk

We picked you up again after waking at 5:30pm. Once we freshened up, we walked over to the house. I began downloading the videos from the day while Cat cleaned the front porch. Brendan was still deep in beauty sleep, so we left him to rest and told him to text when he woke up hungry.

We spent the next hour doing small chores until Brendan finally messaged. We met him at the parking space opposite the rest house and drove out at 9:00pm.

A Fuel Warning and a Detour

We drove aimlessly for a bit while deciding on dinner — until BiBi’s fuel warning came on. That settled it. We headed straight for Batu Buruk in search of a Petronas station.

Along the way, we spotted a lively cluster of food stalls beside TY Hotel and decided to check it out. We eventually settled on Zeeror Burger, which also served Thai dishes.

We ordered:

  • Beef Bone Soup
  • Tom Yum Chicken
  • Nasi Goreng Kampung
  • 2 plates of white rice
  • 2 plain omelettes
  • Keropok Lekor
  • 2 Iced Lemon Tea
  • Watermelon Juice

And because we were still peckish, we later added:

  • Oblong Chicken Burger Special
  • Double Beef Burger

Our hearty dinner came to RM62.00 (≈ USD14/EUR13).

Fueling Up and Winding Down

After dinner, we drove to the Batu Buruk Petronas station and filled up RM100.00 worth of fuel. Then we returned to the house, where I continued working on our videos while Cat busied herself with little chores.

By the time we got back to the rest house, it was close to midnight.

KUL to TGG │ On The Way • Lim Sian Tian • MS Resthouse!

Road Trip to Kuala Terengganu

Almost three weeks after I recovered from Covid 19, we were finally headed northeast to Kuala Terengganu. The trip felt like a much needed reset — physically and mentally.

The last time we were in my hometown was June last year. Before returning to Kuala Lumpur, we left the gate keys with a neighbour who has been keeping an eye on the house and tending to the plants. Thank you, Heng!

The Drive Up the East Coast

We left our condo before dawn and began the long drive up the east coast. We passed the Gombak Toll Plaza at 6:30am, exited at Bentong an hour later, then continued past the Karak Toll Plaza onto the Lebuhraya Pantai Timur (LPT).

We reached the Temerloh R&R at 7:40am and had a simple breakfast of Nasi Lemak and Noodles with Soup. With drinks, breakfast came to RM26.00 (≈ USD6/EUR5).

Forty five minutes later, we resumed our drive. Two hours on the LPT brought us to the Kuala Terengganu Toll Plaza, and from there we headed straight to town for lunch.

Lunch at OTW Kopitiam

We were determined to eat at our perennial favourite, Chuan Kee Chicken Rice, but by noon they were already sold out. So we drove to On The Way (OTW) Kopitiam along Jalan Pesisir Payang — and were lucky to get a seat before the crowd poured in.

We ordered our usual:

  • Laksa Kuah Merah
  • Laksa Kuah Puteh
  • Laksam Kuah Puteh
  • Rojak Betik
  • French Fries
  • Iced Tea with Evaporated Milk
  • Iced Lemon Tea
  • Apple Juice

Lunch came to RM66.40 (≈ USD16/EUR14).

Returning to My Late Aunty’s Home

At 1:00pm, we drove to my late Aunty’s home, eager to check on the place. Last June, we hired a cleaning crew for a full spring cleaning — 14 hours of intense work and two lorry trips’ worth of junk removed.

Slowly but surely, we hope to restore this home to its former glory and turn it into a family “homestay” of sorts.

We unloaded a few items we brought along, including a solar spotlight to replace the faulty back lamp. While Cat washed the downstairs toilet with its newly installed bowl and cistern, I inspected the electrical outlets one by one.

Checking In at MS Resthouse

We then drove a short distance to MS Resthouse, located on the same street, and checked in. We booked two rooms for four nights at RM99 (≈ USD25/EUR21) per room per night. Since the house now has a working washing machine, we no longer needed accommodation with laundry facilities.

We stayed in Room 7A, while Brendan was across the corridor in Room 2A. Exhausted from the early start, we slept for three hours and woke up at 5:30pm.

What’s Next

Stay tuned — next, we head back to the house before going out for dinner.
