A Slow Gawai Morning
It was Hari Gawai and we had nothing planned, so we slept in. I woke up at 8:15am, while Cat emerged from her beauty sleep an hour later. With the whole day ahead of us, we decided to take a nostalgic drive to Kota Samarahan.
Revisiting UNIMAS
We left Adelyn’s homestay at 10:00am and headed toward UNIMAS (Universiti Malaysia Sarawak) — Brendan’s old university. The route had changed quite a bit since our last visit; the massive roundabouts were gone, replaced by intersections and traffic lights. The drive took only twenty minutes.
After getting permission from the security booth, we drove in and began our little campus tour:
- DeTAR Hall, where Brendan’s convocation ceremony was held
- Cempaka College, his former residence
- FELC — Faculty of Education, Language and Communication, his faculty
- Dahlia College, another one of his former residences
At each stop, I got out to take photos — a small walk down memory lane.
Lunch at Premier Food Republic
Once we were done, we drove to Premier Food Republic at Bandar Riyal — a sprawling food court with Dayak, Chinese, and Muslim stalls all under one roof.
We eventually settled on:
- Kolo Mee
- Laksa Noodles
- 2 Green Tea Lemon
- hot Coffee
- Iced Milk Tea
Our simple yet satisfying lunch came to RM25.90 (≈ USD6 / EUR5).
Aiman Mall and Back Home
After lunch, we drove to Aiman Mall for a quick look around before heading back to Adelyn’s homestay to rest and escape the afternoon heat.
