Road Trip to Sekinchan
Today was Awal Muharram, also known as Maal Hijrah, which marked the start of the Islamic New Year. It was a public holiday, and we took advantage of the long weekend by planning a short road trip to Sekinchan, about two hours away.
We had last visited in August 2020, during the pandemic and before we started our YouTube channel, so this trip felt extra meaningful.
Setting Off
Brendan was busy with his coursework and could not join us this time. At noon, we got into BiBi and set off toward our first stop, a restaurant called Chef Danial Halal. Since their Facebook page advised making a reservation, we booked a table for 2:00pm before leaving.
We started our drive on the North South Expressway, then turned onto the Kuala Lumpur–Kuala Selangor Expressway. About an hour later, we arrived at the restaurant.
Lunch in an Oil Palm Estate
Chef Danial Halal was tucked away inside an oil palm estate and felt calm and cosy. We learned that Chef Danial had worked for fifteen years in a five star hotel in Kuala Lumpur before opening his own restaurant here in 2011.
After looking through the menu, we ordered deep fried fish in Thai chilli sauce, dry butter prawns, pak choy in oyster sauce, and a plate of white rice each. With drinks included, our first meal in Sekinchan came to RM86.60 (≈USD22/EUR19). It was a great start to the trip.
Checking In
After lunch, we got back into BiBi and drove to East Sun Hotel, a budget stay we had booked for the night. We chose their suite for RM241.85 (≈USD62/EUR53) per night. The room was clean, modern, and comfortable, and it was located among shoplots filled with convenience stores.
Best of all, the hotel was right next to a laundromat, which made things very convenient for us.
Rest Before the Evening
We settled into our room and rested for the rest of the afternoon, enjoying the slower pace after the drive.
Stay tuned for our next video as we headed out for a riverside dinner in Sekinchan!
