KCH Day 3 │ Peanuts Anchovies • Borneo Headhunters!

Another Change in Plans

We began the morning intending to have Kolo Mee at a famous spot on Jalan Green. But with today being a public holiday — The Yang di Pertuan Agong’s Birthday — parking at Sin Lian Shin was impossible. We then tried our luck at the Waterfront, only to find the same situation at Shirley’s Traditional Kolo Mee.

We eventually found (slightly dodgy) parking right in front of Borneo Headhunters Tattoo Studio — which turned out to be perfect timing. I had been chatting with Ernesto Kalum about a simple hornbill tattoo in a watercolour style, and he told us to drop by later in the morning.

Breakfast at Peanuts Anchovies

With time to spare, we walked around to look for breakfast and settled on a newly opened eatery called Peanuts Anchovies. Our first time here, we both ordered:

  • French Toast with Kaya & Butter
  • hot Coffee
  • their signature Iced Milk Tea

Everything came to RM26.50 (≈ USD7/EUR6)— simple, satisfying, and reasonably priced.

We chilled there for half an hour before heading back to the tattoo studio.

Tattoo Time at Borneo Headhunters

I had a 10:00am appointment with Robinson Unau Gaong (Robin), Ernesto’s partner. He was warm and easy to talk to, and we chatted for a good half hour before getting down to business.

I eventually agreed to shift from the original watercolour hornbill to a bolder, more tribal design — something that felt more rooted in Sarawakian identity. Robin began at 10:30am and completed the piece almost two hours later.

While I was getting inked, Cat wandered off and returned with several pieces of clothing in local tribal motifs. Once Robin was done, I settled the payment and we headed out.

A Quick Errand at Plaza Merdeka

We drove a short distance to Plaza Merdeka to look for a thin, clear sterile dressing for the new tattoo. Errand sorted, we made our way back to Kenyalang Park for lunch.

Lunch at Kim Coffee Garden

Back at Kim Coffee Garden, we ordered:

  • Ginger Chicken with Rice
  • Bamboo Pork with Rice
  • 2 Coca Cola
  • 1 hot Milk Coffee (to go)

Lunch came to RM32.80 (≈ USD8/EUR7). After eating, we returned to Adelyn’s homestay to rest and let the tattoo settle.

What’s Next

Stay tuned — next, we head to Kampung Gersik in search of Manok Pansuh!
