More Errands Around Kuching
We picked you up again after our long walkabout along Jalan Main Bazaar. Once we reached the famed Cat Statue, we hailed a Grab for RM5 and returned to Plaza Merdeka. From there, we headed straight to the basement carpark, hopped into the rental car, and set course for Petronas Metrocity to meet Marvin.
The Yellow Submarine Rescue
One of our yellow submarines had been badly manhandled by the Kuching airport ground staff — the zipper head snapped clean off. The slider was reattached and hooked into the lock, but the bag was unusable.
After a few frantic days searching for a repair shop, we finally found Marvin through a Facebook page. He picked up the bag two days ago, and since he lived near Matang Metrocity, we arranged to collect it from there.
We arrived at Petronas Metrocity at 1:45pm and topped up RM20 of fuel. Marvin arrived shortly after and handed the repaired bag back to us.
Repairs (parts + labour): RM98.00 (≈ USD23/EUR20).
Kek Lapis Run
From there, we drove to Kek Lapis Warisan https://bit.ly/3SAhVOH along Jalan Pisang. We picked up several bars of their delicious cakes — Hati Parek, Rainbow Cheese, and Chocolate Cheese — for RM85.00 (≈ USD21/EUR18).
Kek Lapis Warisan is known for its wide range of customisable cakes: birthday cakes, cheese cakes, chocolate cakes, wedding cakes, red velvet, banana, butter cakes, and of course the iconic Sarawakian Kek Lapis. Their open kitchen lets visitors watch the baking process and chat with the staff — always a nice touch.
Late Lunch at Kim Coffee Garden
We finally headed back to Adelyn’s homestay, parked the rental car, and walked out to Kim Coffee Garden for a late lunch. We both ordered:
- Sarawak Laksa
- Iced Barley
- 1 hot Coffee (to go)
Total: RM24.20 (≈ USD6/EUR5).
We got back to the homestay at 3:00pm to rest and cool off.
What’s Next
Stay tuned — tonight we feast on more local cuisine at an upmarket eatery.
