KCH Day 7 │ Mita Cake House • Peach Garden • Running Errands!

Butter Cake Morning

After our night stroll along Kuching Waterfront, we returned to Adelyn’s homestay — only for Cat to suddenly fall violently ill. Something from our Dayak dinner at Lepau clearly didn’t agree with her, and she threw up three times.

Despite my protestations, she refused medical treatment and eventually fell asleep. I spent the next few tense hours checking on her and only managed to fall asleep around 2:00am.

Which brings us to this morning. Naturally, we slept in and only got up sometime after 10:00am. We showered, got ready, and left the homestay at 11:10am, heading to Jalan Satok in search of a famous cake house.

The Hunt for Butter Cake

By the time we reached Mita Cake House at Jalan Satok, a long line had already formed. So we looked for alternatives and set course for their outlet along Jalan Tun Jugah instead. We arrived at 11:55am and were in luck — several boxes were still available. We grabbed five boxes for RM97.50 (≈ USD23/EUR20).

Lunch at Peach Garden

Since it was nearly lunchtime, we drove to our new favourite food court at Jalan Song. We parked at MTLD Tabuan Heights at 12:10pm and walked over to Peach Garden Food Centre.

Unfortunately, the stall selling my beloved Sausage Fried Rice only opens in the evenings. So I settled for a plate of mixed rice from a “fast food” stall, while Cat opted for Claypot Stewed Soup with Rice. With drinks, lunch came to RM33.00 (≈ USD8/EUR7).

Errands and Packing

We drove back toward the homestay but made a pitstop at Kim Coffee Garden to take away their excellent home grown hot coffee. Once back, I walked out again to Kenyalang Park in search of cellophane tape for our packing.

After trying a few shops, I finally found some at a local 100% Mart and returned to the homestay. We spent the afternoon packing all our goodies — the smaller yellow submarine took the delicate items, while everything else went into the bigger bag.

What’s Next

Stay tuned — tonight we finally visit a rumah asap that actually serves BBQ meat!
