An Evening at Blue Lake
After my tattoo session with Robin at Borneo Headhunters, we returned to Adelyn’s homestay at 2:30pm. We showered — I was extra careful not to let soap touch my new work of art, patting it dry very gently — and spent the afternoon resting indoors.
By evening, we were ready to head out again. On a previous trip to Siniawan Night Market, we had passed a place called Tasik Biru, or Blue Lake, and had always been curious. Today felt like the perfect day to finally visit.
Tasik Biru is a scenic, man made lake about 35 km from Kuching. Formed from an abandoned 91 meter deep gold mining pit from the 1800s, its striking blue green colour comes from residual arsenic in the water. These days, it’s a popular recreation spot with boat rides, a floating bridge, and food stalls nearby.
The Drive to Bau
As has become our Kuching routine, we left the homestay at 5:00pm and drove toward Bau. The journey took about 45 minutes. Once we reached Tasik Biru town, we headed straight to the lakeside car park.
We took photos by the water, with Cat doing some modelling against the dramatic blue backdrop. After that, we drove up to the car park beside
Tasik Biru Food Village, just a stone’s throw away. Unfortunately, with it being Gawai, most stalls were closed — only drink stalls were open.
Exploring the Lake
We hopped back into the car and drove a short distance to the Premier Food Republic food court beside the lake. From there, we walked across the suspension bridge and back, taking even more photos. The lake was calm, the air cool, and the scenery made the detour worthwhile.
Since we weren’t particularly hungry — and the food court was packed to the rafters — we decided to head back to Kuching.
Dinner via Grab
The drive back took another 45 minutes. Once we reached Kenyalang Park, we passed by the local food court, but nothing appealed to us. So we returned to the homestay and opened the Grab app.
From Bong Kolo Mee, we ordered the red and white variants. Including delivery, the total came to RM20.48 (≈ USD5/EUR4). Our meal arrived at 8:20pm — simple, comforting, and exactly what we needed after a long day.
What’s Next
Stay tuned — in the next video, we finally go on a market hunt in our own backyard!
