MKZ Getaway │ City One to The Apple!

Melaka

It had been a month since we returned from Indonesia. In that time, we were completely absorbed in the near daily uploads of our Jakarta and Bandung videos — twenty one in total, with the final one uploaded just last weekend.

Feeling a little burnt out from work, we made a spur of the moment decision to book a two night stay at The Apple Residence, just like we did last September. Brendan declined our invitation as he had a gig this weekend.

If there’s one thing we know for certain, it’s this: Melaka always soothes our souls. It has become our default escape.

The Journey South

The day began with a short drive to the office. I parked, then headed up to the surface level to get breakfast from the only stall open during Ramadhan — a packet of Nasi Lemak with Dried Squid Sambal for RM6.50 (≈ USD/EUR1.50). I brought it upstairs and began the day’s work.

I had applied for half day leave, and Cat met me at the office during lunch. With BiBi already packed and waiting, we began our drive to Melaka.

The journey was smooth. We passed the Ayer Keroh Toll Plaza around 2:00pm and continued toward Gathered Café & Lounge in Batu Berendam. Unfortunately, the place looked closed — perhaps permanently.

So we continued to our intended stop of the afternoon: Wat Phra Jinaraja Siamese Temple.

A Story Worth Telling

While in Bandung, Cat accidentally dropped her lucky charm and amulet — kept in a small sachet — in Pak Yudhi’s Bluebird taxi on the way to the train station. She only realised it was missing when we arrived home.

Incredibly, Bluebird reached out to say Pak Yudhi had found the sachet. Arrangements were made to post it back to us.

Cat has had this lucky charm and amulet since her late teens — more than three decades. Losing it would have been heartbreaking.

So today, we thought it best to have it blessed again. We asked for blessings from the local monk, then continued our drive to The Apple Residence.

A Note to Our Viewers

We retract our previous recommendation of this particular host. We do not endorse hosts who hold on to security deposits longer than necessary.  7 days is an absolute travesty!

Settling In

We checked in and ordered a late lunch through GrabFood. After a long week and a meaningful afternoon, it felt good to finally unwind.

What’s Next

Be sure to catch our next video — we take a stroll up a sacred hill, wander along the Melaka River, and end the night with a fireworks display.
