MKZ Day 3 │ 200th Video Special! Melaka River Walk • Perigi Hang Li Po • Amigo Steak

Melaka Day 3!

It was Chinese New Year, and at the stroke of midnight a burst of fireworks erupted across Melaka. From our Airbnb, we had a spectacular view of the pyrotechnics lighting up the night sky.

With nothing planned — and with rain pouring all morning — we slept in.

I woke up at 9:00am and worked on videos from the past few days. We eventually left the Airbnb at 11:00am and hailed a Grab for RM9.00 (≈ USD/EUR2) to Waronk Melaka, hoping for brunch. It was closed. In hindsight, we should have checked Google — it only opens at noon.

A Walk, A DOS, and Brunch

We began an impromptu walk along the Melaka River and soon arrived at Arang Café. We took our seats, only to be hit with another denial of service — “You cannot sit here.” Not exactly the warmest greeting. We walked away, hoping the bespectacled waitress finds more courtesy in the future.

Still hungry, we continued our search and settled on Nasi Kandar Ali Akbar.

  • I had Nasi Kandar with Fried Chicken
  • Cat had Nasi Kandar with Curry Chicken
  • Drinks + a banana

Total: RM34.50 (≈ USD8/EUR7).

With our perut (bellies) sorted, we continued walking along the river until we reached The Shore. The elastic on Cat’s socks had given up, so we headed into The Shore Shopping Gallery and found a replacement. Crisis averted.

Afternoon Walkabout

We walked along Lorong Bendahara, past the old Ramada Plaza Hotel, and waited for a Panorama Melaka Bus in front of Hotel Orkid. A #17 bus approached but didn’t stop. Traffic toward Red Square was getting gnarlier by the minute, so we decided to walk instead.

We turned left onto Jalan Munshi Abdullah, passed the old Emperor Hotel, and eventually reached the Old Well of Hang Li Po — now strangely renamed Sultan’s Well. We explored the well and the neighbouring Poh San Teng Temple before trying to hail a Grab.

No drivers were available, so we kept walking along Jalan Munshi Abdullah and tried again. After several attempts, we finally secured a Grab for RM9.00 back to the Airbnb.

Staying In for the Evening

Back at the Airbnb, we read news reports of heavy traffic all around Melaka. We debated whether to walk out for dinner or order GrabFood.

In the end, we walked across the street to Amigo Steak & Grill, another favourite of ours. We scanned the QR code and ordered:

  • Fish & Chips
  • Mushroom Chicken
  • Extra Large Honey Dew Juice with Milk
  • Extra Large Carrot Juice

Total: RM72.95 (≈ USD17/EUR16).

Dinner was excellent, though we made a mental note to share the extra large fruit juice next time. We then walked back across the street to the Airbnb.

Looking Ahead

Weather permitting, we might catch a river cruise tomorrow morning.

Stay tuned!
