BKI Day 1 │ Anjung Senja: Tanjung Emas Lot 13

Dinner by the Coast

After settling into our homestay, we waited about an hour before heading out for dinner. The only meal we had earlier was the food on the plane, so we were more than ready to eat.

A Walk Along the Waterfront

We took a relaxed evening stroll along Jalan Coastal, part of Jalan Tun Fuad Stephens, also known as the Kota Kinabalu Coastal Highway. This long road ran by the sea and was built on reclaimed land in the 1990s as part of the city’s coastal development. The walk itself already felt like a treat.

About ten minutes later, we arrived at Anjung Senja, a lively area lined with seafood stalls by the water.

Choosing Our Dinner

After browsing the stalls, we chose stall number 13, Tanjung Emas. We sat down just in time to catch the sunset and ordered a generous spread:

  • Grilled Ikan Belais (streaked spinefoot)
  • Buttered Udang Galah (lobster)
  • 1 bowl of chicken tomyam
  • 1 plate of rumpai laut (local seaweed)
  • 1 plate of large kerang (clams)
  • 2 omelettes
  • 3 plates of white rice
  • 1 hot coffee
  • 2 iced honey lemon

Our first dinner in Kota Kinabalu came to RM170.00 (≈ USD26/EUR24). It was a little on the pricey side, but the food was delicious, and the view of the sun setting over the sea made it feel worth every ringgit.

A Gentle End to the Day

After dinner, we took a slow walk back to the homestay and stopped by a mini mart along the way to pick up some supplies.

With nothing planned for the next day, we were happy to simply take things as they came.

Stay tuned to see what we got up to next in Kota Kinabalu.
