Back in Ipoh
It had been a very long time since we were last in Ipoh. After our recent day trip to Teluk Intan, we felt inspired to turn this into a proper 48 hour escape to Perak.
This time, our video began in unfamiliar surroundings — my office. Since it was a Friday, I applied for a half day of leave, and we started our journey from the car park of Menara Aras Raya. Cat met me at the lobby, and together we headed down to P2 where BiBi was waiting, bags already in the trunk.
The Drive to Perak
The drive was smooth at first. It took about two hours to reach the outskirts of Gopeng, but from there traffic slowed to a crawl. It took another hour before we finally reached the Ipoh (South) Toll Plaza. From there, it was just fifteen minutes to The Majestic Condo — our home for the next two nights.
Checking In
I parked by the side of the building and walked to the guard post. The security team directed me to the mailbox room, where I collected the access card and keys for unit B 11 7 in Imperial Tower (Block B).
Managed by GA Homes, the instructions were clear and precise. We drove up to Level 5, unloaded our bags, and took the elevator to Level 11. Just like that, we were checked into our homestay.
A full tour of The Majestic Condo is coming in our next video.
Lunchtime Adventure
After capturing some footage of the apartment, we headed out in search of lunch. We crossed Jalan Dato Tahwil Azar and walked north until a friendly security guard at The Host Hotel pointed us toward Nasi Ganja Ipoh — described by locals as “a legendary shop that’s as old as Malaysia.”
We turned right onto Jalan Masjid, crossed Jalan Yang Kalsom, and arrived at Yong Suan coffee shop, home of the famous Nasi Kandar Ayam Merah. This stall has been operating since 1957.
We ordered their signature dish, and with drinks our first meal in Ipoh came to RM23 (about USD/EUR5). We also took away several drinks and a caramel custard for RM15.30 (about USD4/EUR3).
Despite the mixed reviews online, we had no hesitation recommending Nasi Ganja Ipoh to anyone passing through.
Exploring the Facilities
On our way back, we stopped by The Host Hotel again to hand the kind security guard a packet of Iced Nescafe as thanks.
Back at The Majestic, we entered Imperial Tower and took the elevator to Level 7 to explore the swimming pool and gym. Then we continued up to Level 21 to enjoy the rooftop garden and its sweeping views of Ipoh.
Finally, we headed back down to Level 11 to settle in.
Stay tuned for our next video as we properly check into our homestay.
