Starting the Day
We woke up early and left the rest house to start a load of laundry at the home before breakfast. Just across Jalan Sultan Ismail, beside our neighbour Ah Tee’s furniture shop, stood Kedai Makan Ezan — better known as Pok Loh. We naturally ordered Nasi Dagang, and with drinks our first breakfast in Kuala Terengganu came to RM16.50 (about USD4/EUR3).
Morning Errands
After breakfast, we walked back across the road but continued on to Elektrik KT Soon Heng along Jalan Pejabat. We picked up a few items for RM55 (about USD14/EUR12) and returned to the home to wait for Ah Seng the electrician.
A week before this trip, on Ah Seng’s advice, we contacted Mrs Tang of Kejuruteraan Letrik Dan Hawa Dingin Tahiti to order a 1 horsepower Daikin air conditioner. We paid her RM1,180 (about USD278/EUR239) by bank transfer and arranged for Ah Seng to collect it.
At the same time, we had also arranged for Hafiz to come by and dispose of old furniture. For RM200 (about USD47/EUR41), he and his crew arrived at 11:20am and cleared two iron single bed frames and three kitchen cabinets. They finished in fifteen minutes, we paid via QR code, and they headed to the dumpsite.
Installing the New Aircon
Ah Seng arrived at 11:45am and began installing the new aircon in the small ground floor room. An old unit had been there before, so replacing it was straightforward. This was one of the final steps before the home could be lived in again. We considered adding another aircon upstairs but decided to leave it for another trip. Our goal was to have the home ready for Chinese New Year next year.
While Ah Seng worked, Cat pottered around the house and I continued editing our videos. Midway through, he left to buy some parts and returned after lunch to continue.
Lunch Delivered
We were too absorbed in our tasks to go out, so we ordered lunch through Grab. Both of us chose Nasi Minyak Daging from Parsley Café for RM27.80 (about USD7/EUR6). Our food arrived at 1:30pm, and after eating we went straight back to our chores. Ah Seng finished the installation a few hours later, and we transferred his RM520 fee (about USD123 / EUR105) via QR code.
One More Repair
Just as we thought we were done, we discovered a leak in the kitchen sink pipes. We contacted our regular plumber, Ah Huat, who arrived at 4:00pm as Ah Seng was leaving. After checking the damage, he went out to buy parts and returned to fix the leak. He finished at 5:30pm, and we paid him RM100 (about USD23/EUR20) in cash.
With all major work completed, we finally breathed a sigh of relief.
Stay tuned for our next video as we head out for an early dinner of flour dipped seafood!
