Another Road Trip!
This time we were heading back to my hometown of Kuala Terengganu. We were here five months ago and managed to get a couple of electrical appliances for the home, and this time around we would be continuing from where we left off.
We were up this morning at five and were out the door before dawn to begin our long drive up the east coast. We headed north and after almost an hour we exited Karak Highway at the Bentong Toll Plaza before making our way past the Karak Toll Plaza and onto the Lebuhraya Pantai Timur (LPT, or East Coast Expressway) at seven in the morning.
This time around instead of the Temerloh rest area we drove on and stopped at the Gambang rest area an hour later and had a simple breakfast of plain packets of Nasi Lemak, together with drinks it all came to RM12.00 (approximately USD3/EUR2).
Although we left Kuala Lumpur with a full tank of petrol we still stopped at the Petronas station here to top up RM34.38 (approximately USD8/EUR7) worth of petrol. It came to 16.77 liters and worked out to RM4.43 (approximately USD1/EUR0.90) a gallon.
All replenished we then resumed our drive at half past eight and after two more hours we made a pitstop at the Ajil rest area. We finally drove past the Kuala Terengganu Toll Plaza at eleven headed to town for lunch.
Learning from the past we skipped our perennial favourite Chicken Rice restaurant, Chuan Kee and headed to the Uncle Chua outlet in Tanjung instead. We arrived at a little past eleven and had the:
- Salted Egg Chicken with White Rice
- Sambal Petai Seafood with White Rice
- Coca-Cola
- Honey Lemon Tea
our brunch came to RM39.65 (approximately USD9/EUR8). We then headed to the home to do a bit of light cleaning which turned out into several hours worth of work done.
By the time we were done it was half past three so we hopped into BiBi, drove a short distance to the rubbish bins then doubled back to check into the rest house. A deposit of RM100.00 (approximately USD24/EUR20) was collected and we were given Room 3A which we had specifically requested since it had twin single beds. We unpacked, showered and got settled in but by five was suffering from hunger pangs. Our brunch seemed a distant memory that happened six hours ago so we got ready for a very early dinner.
We hopped into BiBi and drove to the home to lock up (we only locked the front grille earlier) then headed out to Kuala Ibai intending to enjoy a meal at Warung Norazila. Alas the food stall was closed so we doubled back headed to its namesake in Chabang Tiga. We struck out at Warung Norazila here as well.
Then I remembered our favourite traditional cake shop along Jalan Panji Alam. Gerai Kuih Gong Kapas is a local attraction that hosts a variety of local traditional sweet and savoury cakes, as well as other local delights. We ended up with:
- Laksam Kuah Putih
- Laksa Terengganu
- Kuih Bom
- Popiah Basah
- Akok
that came to RM30.00 (approximately USD7/EUR6). We then drove back to the home to enjoy our bounty, and hungry as we were footage of our feast was completely forgotten.
In that time it began to rain which resulted in a very cool and pleasant evening. I continued to work on our video while Cat busied herself around the house. We walked back to the rest house at ten and got ready for a good night's sleep.
Stay tuned for our next video as we have breakfast across the street then welcome Seng the electrician to the home so that an aircon could be installed!
