An Early Start to Kuching
We were up at 6:00am and out the door an hour later. Brendan drove us to KL Sentral’s KL City Air Terminal at 6:50am. He had originally planned to join us, but with his final year project presentation coming up, we had to cancel his middle seat, 6E.
As always, we bought our KLIA Express tickets online and enjoyed the discount — RM43.75 (≈ USD10/EUR9) each. This mattered because the only way to check in at KL CAT is with KLIA Express tickets. We scanned them at the turnstile, entered the terminal, and sent our yellow submarines through security before checking them in. Our combined luggage weighed 25kg, well within the 40kg allowance.
Off to KLIA
We exited KL CAT, walked across to the KLIA Express gates, and used the same tickets to board the train. It departed at 7:30am and arrived at KLIA half an hour later. We took the escalators up to the Departure Level and settled at Costa Coffee for drinks.
Our hot latte and iced strawberry tea came to RM36.35 (≈ USD9/EUR8). We spent the next hour people watching before strolling to the domestic departure gates at 9:00am.
Boarding MH2520
Our flight, MH2520, was departing from Gate B9 at 11:00am. Boarding began at 10:30am. Brendan’s cancelled seat 6E was taken by Mr Chong, who kindly swapped with Cat’s aisle seat 6D — and the cabin crew had no objections.
Pushback was delayed due to a runway inspection, so we eventually took off at 11:25am. The flight was smooth, and we were served our inflight meal half an hour later. We both chose the Fish with Rice.
MH2520 began descending at 12:35pm and landed about thirty minutes later. After clearing Customs & Immigration, we collected our bags from Carousel C and walked out to meet our regular car rental guy, Awang Amirul — always reliable, always friendly.
He handed us the keys to a blue Perodua Bezza. After mounting our camera, we drove to our regular homestay in Kampung Kenyalang Park, hosted by the wonderful Adelyn.
First Meal in Kuching
After a quick shower, we walked out in search of a late lunch and settled on Kim Coffee Garden. We ordered:
- Sarawak Laksa
- Curry Mee
- Iced Milk Tea
- their signature Coffee
Our first Sarawakian meal came to RM26 (≈ USD6/EUR5). We then walked to Everwin Supermarket for some provisions before heading back to the homestay.
