It’s Chap Goh Meh!
We met you again after the heavy rain finally eased. With the streets still wet and shining, we walked just a few minutes from our Airbnb to a place we had been looking forward to all evening.
To mark this auspicious day, we had booked a table at Da Long Yi Hotpot. Unfortunately, Brendan could not join us, as he already had plans with his university friends. Still, we were excited—this was our first ever hotpot experience.
A Warm Welcome After the Rain
The downpour delayed us, and we arrived later than planned. Even so, the staff kindly held on to our reservation, which we appreciated. It already felt like a good start.
Their website proudly claimed, “Let the world fall in love with Chengdu flavour.” After that night, we could honestly say we did.
Our First Hotpot Feast
Since it was our first time, we took our time studying the menu before ordering. In the end, we chose:
- Half portion of Belgium Iberico pork slice
- Half portion of Kurobuta pork belly slice
- Pork shoulder slices
- Handmade mushroom pork meatballs
- Handmade fish balls
- Handmade water chestnut pork balls
- Deep fried bean curd
- Enoki mushrooms
- Baby cabbage
- Abalone fried rice
- 1 can of Tiandi apple vanilla
The food kept arriving, and with each bite, we understood the appeal of Chengdu style hotpot more and more.
An Evening to Remember
We decided to let the footage tell most of the story, because some experiences truly needed to be seen rather than explained. The flavours, the warmth of the meal, and the slow pace of eating made the evening feel special.
Our dinner came to RM228.40 (≈ USD48/EUR44). This included SST of RM11.81, a service charge of RM19.69, and a dine in charge of RM6.00 per person. It was a little pricey by our usual standards, but absolutely worth it for such a memorable first hotpot experience.
Wrapping Up the Night
Full, content, and happily tired, we ended the night feeling that Chap Goh Meh could not have been celebrated in a better way.
Do catch our previous videos, where we enjoyed lunch at an Indian restaurant and checked into an excellent Airbnb before this wonderful evening.
