A Laidback Saturday in Bangkok: Food, Fashion & Fun

Today was all about taking it slow and savouring the area of Ekkamai. I woke up at a leisurely half past nine (a rare treat!) and spent the morning planning next week’s itinerary while Cat and Brendan enjoyed their beauty sleep. By 11:30 a.m., we were ready to head out for an early lunch.

Lunch Like a Local

With no fixed plans, we strolled down Saeng Chan Road and turned onto Sukhumvit 42, eventually landing at Lim Pork Leg Buffet—a spot we’d been meaning to try. Dining here felt authentically local: we scooped our own rice and were served generous portions of tender pork knuckles. To round out the feast, we added flat noodle soup, barbecued pork, and a round of Pepsi. The best part? The entire meal cost just THB412 (≈ MYR53/USD13/EUR11)!

Pampering & Grooming

Post-lunch, Cat and Brendan headed to BAMBOO Nail & Lash for some self-care—Cat opted for a manicure and pedicure, while Brendan settled for a manicure. Their treatments totaled THB1,949 (≈ MYR252/USD62/EUR53). Meanwhile, I popped into the barbershop next door for a quick haircut at THB200 (≈ MYR26/USD6/EUR5).

When I finished, I wandered down Sukhumvit 42 and onto Rama 4 Road, even stopping at a PTT station to inquire about a HOP card for Thai Smile Bus lines (no luck this time). Eventually, I headed back to Tierra Residences, where Cat and Brendan joined me half an hour later.

Evening Adventures at Chatuchak

By 4:00 p.m., we hopped on the shuttle to Gateway Ekkamai, then took the BTS to Mo Chit. Thirty minutes and fifteen stops later, we arrived at Chatuchak Night Market. Despite visiting in March, we still needed Google Maps to find the entrance—Gate 18 was our gateway to retail heaven.
