KCH Day 4 │ My Village Barok • Manuk Pansuh!

Hunting for Manuk Pansuh

After returning from our Kenyalang Park Market adventure, we reached Adelyn’s homestay at 8:30am, showered, and chilled until evening. During our chat with Robin from Borneo Headhunters Tattoo the day before, he had recommended a local dish we had to try: Manuk Pansuh, a traditional chicken dish cooked in bamboo. He told us it could be found across the Waterfront in Kampung Gersik.

So we searched online and found My Village Barok Bistro, a place known for serving authentic Sarawakian dishes — including the one we were after.

Dinner at My Village Barok

At 5:00pm, we hopped into the rental car and headed toward Kampung Gersik. The drive took about twenty minutes, but parking was tricky, so we ended up leaving the car a short distance away. My Village Barok sits right beside the Sarawak River, so we took the scenic riverbank route to reach it.

The restaurant is known for its vintage atmosphere — rustic touches, Bornean décor, and a menu built around local favourites. It felt warm, nostalgic, and unmistakably Sarawakian.

After browsing their online menu, we ordered:

  • Manuk (Chicken) Pansuh
  • Ikan Terubuk Masin
  • Umai Ikan
  • Midin Belacan
  • Iced Green Tea Lemon
  • Iced Assamboi Limau Kasturi
  • 2 plates of White Rice

Our Sarawakian feast came to RM80.50 (≈ USD19/EUR17).

A Walk by the Sarawak River

We realised we had eaten a little too well, so we decided to walk off some of the calories. Since we were already by the river, we strolled along the riverbank all the way to the I ❤️ Kuching signboard and back. The evening breeze, the river lights, and the quiet hum of Kampung Gersik made it a lovely post dinner walk.

After that, we hopped back into the rental car and made the ten minute drive back to Adelyn’s homestay.

A Rainy Night in Kuching

Just as we got back and showered, heavy rain began to fall. We were grateful — Kuching had been getting hot and humid, and the rain cooled everything down beautifully.

What’s Next

Stay tuned — in the next video, we leave at the crack of dawn, hoping to catch a glimpse of orangutans!
