CHOW KIT Market │ GOKL Free Bus • Yem Masakan Kampung

Chow Kit Road — Ambient Sounds Debut

This video has been a long time in the making. Chow Kit Road is one of the most famous streets in Kuala Lumpur, and we’ve been meaning to do a walkabout video here for a very long time.

This video also marks a small milestone for our channel — the first time we introduced ambient sounds. Until now, all our videos were muted, with audio entirely from our Epidemic Sound tracks. Chow Kit felt like the perfect place to let real city sounds breathe.

Getting There

We left our condo and headed to the Capsquare Bus Stop, where we boarded a GOKL Free Bus to the Monorail Chow Kit stop. From there, we crossed Jalan Sultan Azlan Shah under the monorail tracks and continued onto Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman.

We paused briefly to capture footage of the DBKL Hawker Centre, where we often order meals through the Grab app.

Into Chow Kit Market

We continued our walk and soon entered the Chow Kit Road Market — a place that needs no narration because the sights, sounds, and energy speak for themselves. We’ll let the footage paint the words for you.

Here’s a little context from the Visit Malaysia website:

“Chow Kit has been a reliable place to purchase fruits, spices, meat, vegetables, clothes, shoes and so on… This is the only place where you can try out local foods at a very low price. The market begins as early as 6am and you can expect lively and culture rich scenes here.”

And that’s exactly what we experienced — lively, colourful, and full of character.

Early Lunch at Yem Masakan Kampung

At the end of our market walkabout, we decided on an early lunch. After wandering around for a bit, we settled on Yem Masakan Kampung.

  • I had the Spiced Fried Chicken with Rice
  • Cat tried the Grilled Torpedo Scad (Mackerel) with Rice
  • Together with drinks, our lunch came to RM21.50 (≈ USD5/EUR4)

Simple, hearty, and very satisfying.

Heading Home

After lunch, we walked back to Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman and caught another GOKL Free Bus to the Globe KL stop. From there, it was a short walk back to our condo.

What’s Next

We’re hoping to wake up early tomorrow for Kuala Lumpur Car Free Day, held every Sunday around our area. Stay tuned for that adventure!

P/S: The morning walk didn’t materialise — Cat developed some health issues. Maybe another time?
