It’s Malaysia Day!
Malaysia Day marked the formation of the Malaysian federation in 1963, when Malaya, North Borneo, Sarawak, and Singapore came together. It was a public holiday, and for us, it turned into a relaxed city walk.
A Slow Start
Truth be told, we slept in. By the time we stepped out, it was already close to noon.
Our first idea was lunch at Capital Café, but the long queue quickly changed our minds. We continued along Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman, crossed over near Sogo, and paused to decide what to do next.
A Quick Ride to Pasar Seni
We hopped onto RapidKL bus #170 from the Menara MARA stop and got off at Pasar Seni Bus Hub. The fare was minimal, and the ride was short.
At the nearby LRT station, we tried to reload our Touch ’n Go cards, but the machine left us confused. Thankfully, the kiosk at Pasar Seni MRT Station was easier to use, and we topped up without trouble.
Tip: Most RapidKL buses do not accept cash. It’s best to have a Touch ’n Go card ready before boarding.
Lunch at Sin Kiew Yee
From there, we walked along Jalan Sultan and turned into Jalan Tun H.S. Lee, passing the beautiful Sri Maha Mariamman Temple.
We stopped for lunch at Sin Kiew Yee, where we enjoyed:
- Sweet & Sour dish
- Ginger with spring onion fried dish
- White rice
- Chinese tea
The meal came to RM28.00 (≈ USD6/EUR6)—simple and satisfying.
Wandering Through the City
Lunch done, we set off on an impromptu walk:
- Jalan Hang Lekir
- Jalan Hang Kasturi
- Central Market
Inside Central Market, we found a long row of temporary stalls selling all kinds of small items and souvenirs. We walked the full length before heading out toward Medan Pasar, passing the old clock tower along the way.
From there, we continued toward Lebuh Ampang and Jalan Tun Perak.
Coffee Break
We stopped at Rush Roastery for a drink, spending RM33.00 (≈ USD7/EUR7)—ironically more than lunch!
Still, it was a nice break after a long walk.
The Final Stretch
We continued on, weaving through smaller streets before rejoining familiar paths:
- Jalan Melaka
- Jalan Ampang
- Jalan Munshi Abdullah
Crossing the bridge near Jakel Mall, we knew we were almost home.
A few more steps, and we were back at our condo.
A Day That Unfolded
It wasn’t a day we planned carefully. We didn’t chase specific places or experiences.
Instead, we:
- Walked through old streets
- Discovered small corners of the city again
- Ate simple food
- And enjoyed the rhythm of Kuala Lumpur
Sometimes, that is more than enough.
What’s Next
We planned to head out again this Sunday morning in search of a second pre loved DJI Pocket 2.
Let’s see if things go our way this time
Stay tuned!
