Starting the Morning at Plaza Damas
Happy National Recovery Plan (NRP) Phase 4, Kuala Lumpur!
We had a few errands to run this fine Saturday morning, so our first stop was Plaza Damas. I went for a much needed haircut, while Cat headed upstairs to tend to the studio apartment that my sister left in our care.
Lunch (and Dinner) Sorted
With the morning errands done, we took care of lunch — and dinner — by packing several packets of our favourite Kelantanese mixed rice (Kak Wok) from Warung Soho. A reliable choice, and always delicious.
A Trip to Jalan Pasar
Next, we made our way to Jalan Pasar, where I stopped by Syarikat Instraco, an audio shop I’ve visited many times over the years. My mission: to find a replacement speaker for one of my old guitar amplifiers.
Long before the Vox Pathfinder 10, the Boss Katana 50 Mk2, or the Orange Crush 35RT, my faithful companion was a modest Dars 30 watt amp. It served me well for many years — until its speaker was blown out by a rather rambunctious Millennial.
A Well Deserved Upgrade
To reward this little workhorse for its years of loyal service, I picked up a Celestion Ten 30 — described as “a 10 inch guitar speaker that combines warm lows with a vocal mid range and an articulate top end.” A fitting upgrade for an amp that has been with me through countless practice sessions and late night jams.
Wrapping Up the Day
With errands completed and the Dars amp ready for revival, we headed home feeling satisfied. A productive Saturday, and a small but meaningful reward for a trusted old friend.
