TGG Day 1 │ RIDWAN Cafe & Seafood Kuala Terengganu

The Search for Dinner

It was a very maddening night. Most of the eateries on our list were either closed for the day — or closed for good. We left the hotel around 6:30PM, and after an hour and a half of driving across the width and breadth of Kuala Terengganu, we finally found ourselves at this seafood restaurant. Quite by chance, actually.

Located near Sultan Mahmud Airport, the place was run by a group of youths. Instead of idling their time away, they took matters into their own hands and started a business. Hats off to them — we were genuinely impressed.

A Simple, Satisfying Feast

We quickly scanned the menu and ordered Set A, which came with:

  • Siakap Tiga Rasa (Tri Flavoured Sea Bass)
  • Omelette
  • Two plates of white rice
  • Two glasses of Iced Tea

Since Brendan avoids seafood, he ordered Tom Yam Chicken with rice.

But all that driving must have made him extra hungry — he later added a plate of Padprik Chicken with rice as well.

We enjoyed our dinner immensely. The food was fresh, flavourful, and comforting after such a long, frustrating search.

The Damage

To our astonishment, the entire seafood (and chicken) feast came to a paltry RM43 (≈ USD10/EUR9).

For the quality, quantity, and taste, this place is a serious contender for the crown of “everyday food for the everyday man.”

A Night Saved

What began as a maddening evening ended on a high note — good food, good value, and a newfound appreciation for the hardworking youths keeping the local food scene alive.
