Bentong Market Hunt
We awoke at 6:45am and headed out for breakfast at 7:10am. Brendan opted to sleep in, so it was just the two of us on this humid and muggy Sunday morning.
We initially planned to eat at Choy Kee, but the lack of variety nudged us toward Bentong’s Kopitiam instead. There, we had a Yong Tau Foo–inspired breakfast, and together with drinks, it came to RM21.40 (≈ USD/EUR4).
Exploring the Morning Market
After breakfast, we wanted to replenish our Federal Reserves at a nearby bank, but the long queue deterred us. So we began our stroll through the Bentong morning market, starting with the textile section before doubling back into the main market hall.
Cat picked up a bunch of bananas for RM5.90 (≈ USD/EUR1). We then came across a Malay stall selling local delicacies and bought:
- 10 Pulut Panggung
- 10 cuts of Lemang
- RM1.00 each
- Total: RM20.00 (≈ USD/EUR4)
Cat later bought two papayas for RM15.60 (≈ USD/EUR3) — though the seller returned our change short by RM1.00, which was disappointing.
Final Errands
Our last stop was Mr Bentong Hafiz Oon, where Cat bought:
- 500g fresh ginger — RM17.00 (≈ USD4/EUR3)
- 1 carton Bentong Macao Eggs — RM19.00 (≈ USD/EUR3)
With our market haul complete, we headed back to the hotel to pack up and checked out at 10:00am.
